Road trip Software?

Hey all,

I looked on google and searched the forum. Starting to do more road trips and want a piece of software that can note my routes and where I have been. Is there anything out there like that. Don't care if it is PC or MAC or App or Online.

Any leads/links would be great.

Many Thanks.

There are lots of smartphone apps that will track your movements via gps. Unfortunately, I can't recall the names of any of them right now but they shouldn't be hard to find.

Just import the routes from your GPS into Google Earth (not maps) or Garmin Mapsource. I prefer Google Earth because the satellite overlay helps me remember landmarks and gives me things to look at for the next ride.

My GPS tracks, and it can then be imported into Basecamp (garmins map software). I plot routes with base camp, a nice program.

There are lots but for straight nav with voice and the ability to stick in new stops I'm using MotionXdriver on my iPHone 4 - cheap and good voice nav. Nice feature I like it can avoid not only toll roads but main highways so can get you into nicer routes and still keep your destination loaded and will recalculate quickly if you decent to take a detour.

I believe the OP is looking for a way to review routes once he's been out and about.

I know - he'd have to look at the feature set - I know it does store the route directions. It is not a waypoint app tho.

Thanks Guys.

Here are the apps I currently use.

Here is what I use:

GPS Drive
Roadside USA
MobilyTrip
Instagram
Negotiator
Glympse

Allow me to explain a little clearer what I am looking for. I want a piece of software to database all the locations I have travelled and the routes I took to get there. This is something I use before or after a trip. I think Microsoft Streets and trips may be the best option, but I was hoping for something a little fluid with a easy interface. As much as I love IOS Apps I want something on a desktop (maybe that can link to iPhone). I just want to show where I go.. I think I saw something like it here a user had it in their signature but for the life of me I cannot find it...

Thanks

If you can save the tracks off your GPS, you can then upload it and save it in Google Maps. This way, you can reference them from any computer

I'll have to look to see if I can do that. I am surprised, looking at the responses it seems there may be no polished product out there for what I want, I would have assumed many riders/drivers would want such a program. Shame I can write code..LOL

I think the term is "bread crumbs" - which stores the track - fishermen hikers and bicyclists use them to retrace tracks.

and it works with MotionX

I tell you MotionXDriver was terrific last night on a midnight run from Coudersport PA to Toronto. Never messed up once and purred in my ear only when necessary and good integration with iTunes.
Screen stays lit under power and I could just flip the door open on glove box on the Burgamn to get an eyeball and not have to stop.
PA to Toronto straight run 4 hours and would not have been able to do it without XDriver. Sure takes the navigation stress away - especially with detours and the slab tangle around Buffalo.

I might sign up for Breadcrumbs as well as I like to know where I have been. Thanks for the nudge.

MotionX for the tracking - separate app from MotionXDriver
which is likely a good thing.

Hey Fearless you gotta carve out some time for a PA run .....sure are nice roads and only 4 hours away.

You're a night rider so down Friday evening and back Sunday night gives two full days in superb twisties. $50 a night for motel - gas at the door and SR44/144 a few KM down the road.

The data it collects is only visible to you.
