Can the Dealership Keep My Deposit?

ah okay, thanks for the help Luc.

Do you think buying a used rider training institute motorcycle would be a good idea? Or could they have a lot of problems? because something like this http://toronto.kijiji.ca/c-cars-veh...e-Rider-Training-Institute-W0QQAdIdZ378138948 I could buy without having to get a loan at all. If it worked well then I could save a ton of money taking that route on my first bike.

I'm not sure that's such a good idea. Those bikes are usually beaten up. I remember when I took the course I could barely shift.

You know I wouldn't be that worried about it.. Yes they do get beaten up.. but they also get very well maintained. Might you have to put a new clutch in it over the next year or two? maybe.. but so what? its a great price.. an you'll get the opportunity to learn how to wrench on it!

I bought a retired cop car once.. they beat the piss out of those things, but they follow strict maintenance.. I put a lot of miles on it.. beat the piss out of it myself and it served me very well.. in the end when it started to need repairs.. I could have easily sunk a little money into it and drove it another few years.. but for the price I paid it, it owed me nothing.. time to scrap it and buy something new.. this bike is a 2006 for 1500 bucks.. how bad could it be? if it lasts you 3 years it's paid for itself.

That is obviously a stock photo.. go have a look at the real thing and see what kind of shape it's in..

New clutch, no problem. New transmission......bit of a problem!

I want to get a CBR600RRA next. Can you recommend a dealership?? ;)
Brampton Powersports always came back with the best price, this is after haggling with 5 different dealerships on price. I was shopping for 250's for two friends of mine. The only thing that ****** me off, is after the deals were all written and done, they started to hard sell them on life insurance, $35 for the gas for the PDI, $$$ for an extra year warranty (I tried to clarify, so you mean I get a three year warranty instead of the two Honda is offering on the promotion?!? they said "Oh, you know about that promo eh, ummm, right, yeah we can throw in the extra year for free then so 2 total) OMFG f'ing scammers! They also said we had to leave a $500 deposit to get the $250 "match bonus" on the promotion, ummm, NO, that's not what the fine print says.

Would I recommend you go there? If you stick to your guns and DON'T SIGN ANYTHING and don't leave a deposit until you've scanned and e-mailed me a copy of the receipt (make sure they write the VIN# on it, not valid without). If they won't let you take home the receipt without signing their copy (another BS tactic) give me the name of your salesperson and I'll have a chat with the manager there and we'll get ya sorted.

I absolutely f'ing hate Honda with all my might and have done everything in my power to persuade people not to buy their motorcycles or cars. For a 250 beginner bike I didn't want to set my friends up with a bike without fuel injection so Honda was the only choice unfortunately.

Are you really sold on the CBR600?? How come I can't talk you into a brand new super crazy discounted 2011 Yamaha R6? Insane deal on it, 12 months extra Yamaha Protection Plus, no payments for 7 months or rates as low as 3.49%, etc. etc. Pretty sure it doesn't have ABS.

Google is your friend.

In Ontario there is no cooling off period when purchasing a vehicle. Once you have signed that paper, you are legally liable for the full purchase of the vehicle.
That being said, it's doubtful that any dealer would bother to pursue it. it's too costly and time consuming to persue someone for something that haven't taken possession of. It's also not good for their reputataion. If you have left a deposit, the dealer is legally entitled to keep all or a portion of the deposit.

It should also be noted that any deposit over $50 is legally required to be accompanied by a written agreement.

When ever I'm feeling blue I just read that and it makes me smile too. It wouldn't be nearly as funny except for the "It's apparent, sprockets are not your strong suit." ROFL!!! :D

I was noob once, knew nothing about sprockets too! When I installed my first chain I cut too many links off and machined out my swing arm to shorten the wheelbase so the chain would fit :) Woot for easy wheelies ;)

i would avoid the bikes off training courses. they have usually fallen a LOT. one guy in my course somehow fell and he and the bike slid FAR.
also, they are missing signals and headlights.

check out used cbr 125's on kijiji. you can get them for about 3 grand, or older ninja 250s.
have you checked your insurance yet? have you got riding gear?
start adding up the cost of what you need before you buy a bike.
helmets you can get for $150ish..but mine was $650 (Shoei RF1100, when i put it on i didnt care about the price, its the most comfortable one out there)... you get what you pay for.
jacket, you can go used or get a mesh one for $150
gloves they start at about $50 and go wayyyy up from there.

im no expert but if you are looking at a bike in mississauga i can take a peak at it for ya. someone else on here may offer the same who has more on bike time than me.
i work on a lot of my own cars and my friends cars...not a mechanic but some of my neighbours think i am.

Well I had a look today at the training bikes, they are pretty beaten up but they seem to run well. The bike will come with the signals that they had removed for the training course. Although when I factor in all the other costs it'll end up costing easily over 2000. Tax is nearly $200, then there's $100 for getting safety certification and another $200 to get a new rear tire (rear tire on the bike that's in the best condition is pretty worn) and then $175 to have it towed to me all adds up to nearly $700 in extra costs.. and that's not including unforeseen costs that could arise like brakes, clutch etc.. I may try and haggle the price down a bit.

I've already bought all my gear (boots, helmet, gloves, Jacket) and the motorcycle course at Sheridan. Also already gotten quotes for insurance. All that's left is for me to buy a bike.

how about a newer honda rebel? im sure you can get that down to $2200-2500 and with this low of mileage as long as it hasnt been down hard it should pass safety.

Oh wow, those all make the training bikes seem like garbage for the price.. Even if I were to fix up the training bike it'd cost as much as those but it'd still be an old beat up crappy bike.. Maybe I wont get the training bike afterall..

do some research. that only took me 10 min on kijiji.
and please, get some insurance quotes.
for the 250cc you may be able to get with wawanessa if you are over 25 and have a clean record.(they wont cover super sport bikes)
first year with insurance and i pay just over $500 a year on a harley sportster 883cc

I've already called a few places for insurance, they all give me fairly high priced quotes.. I'm under 25 and don't have a full G license yet so according to the insurance flowchart I have a few options but most of them seem to go through TD insurance, except Jevco. The quotes are all relatively the same. They told me my rate would drop considerably each year after. It seems like the first few years of insurance come at quite a premium however..

did you call state farm? they go by your normal drivers license. 5years in a car is considered the same as on a bike i believe. (dont quote me on that..im not with them)
most places classify the 250cc as a scooter i believe.

No I haven't contacted State Farm because apparently you need a full G license for them to insure you. I found this bike that I'm fairly interested in http://toronto.kijiji.ca/c-cars-veh...-bikes-2009-Hyosung-GT250R-W0QQAdIdZ391237310 I'm not very interested in the cruiser style bikes and this one looks real nice and comes with sliders and a bunch of other extras that I don't exactly need but is starting to cost a little more. If I could get the price a little lower or get them to get it safety certified and deliver it for me then it might be worth it if there are no problems with it.

looks good and comes with helmet and gloves. just add a jacket and you are good to go.
i would say if you went there with 3 grand you could probably walk away with it. delivery is usually a little tougher, most guys selling thier 250s have bought 600s (or something else) and pulled the insurance off the 250s.

if you look at the blue 2006 i sent you and the black one you posted you can tell the frames are still the same, so you could buy plastics and the headlight off the 09 and it should all just bolt right on. save the $1500 ride a bit then see if you still want the full plastics or not.

Yeah the only problem is its my first bike and I can't exactly ride it home. The blue one is all the way in Pickering and will cost quite a bit to have it towed over 60km.

if you know someone who has CAA there are some towing companies that will pick up and drop off your bike (that just broke down......cough) then bill CAA.
or you have to pay then get reimbursed by caa... i cant remember how it works but either way its free.

some mechanics will charge far less than $100 for a safety, last safety i bought for a bike was $40. it's 1/2 an hour of their time depending on the bike. like with insurance companies you need to shop around. you should be able to spot what's wrong with your bike before bringing it to the mechanic as there is a list of things it must meet.
