dont buy gas day - your thoughts?

Will not make a difference to anyone as you are still going to USE gas that day, who cares if you don't buy it one day.
Its like if a bill comes out of your account a day late, Are you going to freak out and rush to the company to ask why it was a day late.

I think if everyone there didn't use gas for a year or so then it might make a difference but seeing how most internet protests are done by people to lazy to get off their *** and do something I highly doubt they would inconvenience themselves by riding a bicycle, walking or taking the bus to work for the next year.

Too many people these days think they can change the world by posting a couple paragraphs on a website and doing nothing further to help their cause.

To the oil company giants even if every single one of those people didn't use gas on a certain day, It would be like being $0.10 short on a normal workers paycheck.
Are you really going to care and try to figure out why it was short $0.10 or are you just going to go on with your day.

makes no difference. People will still buy gas the day after, probably at an inflated price.

What about that idea of not buying from bigger sellers like on explained on the link.. same issue different method?

First sentence in that article: THIS IS NOT THE 'DON'T BUY' GAS FOR ONE DAY

So you don't buy gas one day...then you need to buy it another day...or the other...makes no difference....

Now make it so you boycott a certain gas supplier for a week or a month...then you may see some kind of reactionary move...but I think people are too disillusioned to bother as not enough will feel that it'll make a difference...or do your thing and be as efficient and conservative as you can be in your life and then it'll make a difference to you only.

For every 1 million people that you get to not buy gas from them there will be 100 billion people that still do.
People these days are lazy and will go to the nearest gas station regardless (Minus the few who love their certain gas)
I guarentee the creator of that facebook page will buy gas at one of those places in the next year due to convenience.

^ - isn't there only 7 billion people on the planet? LoL Sorry but I had to comment!

lol I didn't actually read the article as I have a gas nazi on my FB that sends me these at least once a month.
I just read the title of this thread.

In short, How many people actually stand behind what they say on FB..........Whatever happened to Kony, That lasted a whole 2 days and I'm supposed to believe that people on FB are actually going to stick to something for a year that isn't Farmville?

Yeah that was a typo lol, I had it at 100 million but realized that wasn't even close.
I say maybe out of the thousnads that joins these FB groups there is only a couple of people that would go through with it (Probably not even till the end)

Who do you think supplies the smaller no name stations. All gas in Ontario comes from 4 refineries owned by the big 3 does not matter where you buy your gas the money goes to the same 3 big companies Sunoco, Imperial Oil (ESSO) and Shell!

The only way something like that will work is if you can get everyone to not buy gas from a certain company (shell and all its subsidiaries for example) for an extended period of time.

It would cause that one company to reprice for a short period of time, then all prices will rise again bringing us back to square one, or a worse situation.

Government legislation regulating gas prices (oil closes at $x today, gas is $y tomorrow) would work, but it takes away the free market system that our country stands for. Also $y would likely be higher than what we're paying now, so in the end, we all lose.

My personal way of combating this is owning energy shares. The dividends I receive quarterly are enough to pay my fuel bill for the quarter, and that's not including the increase in equity when the stock rises.

+1 as above...buying shares is a great idea...especially if they're dividend paying shares! I'm currently looking to start buying some shares and I want to have the ones that pay dividends so this would be a good start.

Care to share some examples of Energy Shares/stocks??

It's a retarded waste of time... Want a "don't buy gas day"? Why not have a "ride the ******* bus day". Lol

People don't fill on the don't buy gas days... They rush to fill the night before... Or the day after... Pay me now or pay me later... Either way you're going to be paying me.

Just as useless as turning off your lights on earth day. In fact, I'd argue that both do more harm than good. Besides, when it comes to fuel, how many people need to fill up every day? It would have to be at least a week or more to ensure that a substantial number of people don't buy gas.
