Stolen Keys. How to replace? please help.

Hello, I recently got robbed and had all my valuables taken along with my keys. They took both of my keys to my bike because one was in the safe and another on my key hook.

My question is i was given a "Key Card" from my dealer when i bought the bike (used). it has all the information for my bike on it. including a metal tab with a 4 digit number. I took it to a lock smith and asked if they could make a key from it. they said the yellow "Key card" was useless but the metal one with the four digits would work, but it brings up a Yamaha key.
Has anyone experienced this? My dealer only sells Hyosung so there is no way they could have switched the metal card.
My only other option is to rip out my ignition (the locksmith is telling me).

Does anyone have advise? should i just spend the money on the "Yamaha" key and hope it works?

When I had my keys stolen I bought a blank from the dealer and had a locksmith come to my house and fit a new one...

Sometimes key codes are invalid for the bikes that they come with (such as with the cbr 125r and possibly the same for your gt250r), but the code will still show for other bikes/cars/desk locks/etc... Your best bet is to call up a mobile locksmith that can come out to wherever the bike is and they will be able to make a key for it. Ripping out the ignition sometimes won't do much for the other locks that the bike may have (helmet, trunk/seat, gas tank, etc...). Call another locksmith to get their opinion.

If they robbed you from your house I would get a new ignition as what would stop them from coming back or following you somewhere and then stealing your bike as well?

There is only one locksmith in my city that can remake keys. I called every single one. none of the mobile guys can fit motorcycle locks. :( most of the locksmiths told me they have never heard of Hyosungs before...

If they come back to steal my bike i have theft insurance that will cover the bike + some.

Also i have no idea how much replacing all the locks would cost or where i could go to get it done. Any ideas?

Can the Hyosung dealer you bought it from cut the key from the VIN?

No because the "dealer" is an authorized reseller not a true dealer. they also do not have blanks or a key cutter. they offered to help tow my bike, but they still wanted 70ish $ for the tow. (cheaper then my other option, but still more money then i can afford right now.)

I tried asking the lock smith if they can cut from a VIN (the locksmith that can cut hyosung keys) and they said there is no way for them to do it because they cannot get the numbers they need from hyosung.

Would home insurance not cover the cost of getting the bike re-keyed with new keys?

from a quick google search, it would seem that these guys are the national distributor for canada

http://www.nationalmotorsports.ca/

try emailing them, see if they can help you order keys from the vin. it's a long shot, but at this point I'd be trying everything with nice riding weather right around the corner.

There's usually a stamped number on the ignition that refers to the key. Otherwise take the ignition off and have it keyed. Any good locksmith can do this regardless of the make. I have a guy in Guelph that has done this before for me.

I rent. I had no home insurance.

Isn't renters insurance mandatory? Not that anyone I know that rents actually has it. I just know every apartment building I've been in has signs all over the place saying it's mandatory. It's only about $200/yr.

Call/visit an actual Hyosung dealer instead of the dealer you bought it from. Or get CAA and have it towed to somewhere that has a locksmith that can do it.

not unless he signed a contract that negated it (i had to do this and get my own).

On a side note, you look at it from a brighter perspective and look at it as a nice project. I've always wanted to do a keyless rfid starter... take a look here:

That's what I was thinking too!

My renters insuranc ethrough SF is $13/month and they gave me a $20/month discount on my truck insurance if I got it so I really couldn't say no.

wouldn't you no longer be covered for theft since you're keys got stolen?
i thought insurance companies ask for your keys in theft cases, otherwise you could just "give" your keys away and have bike stolen and make a claim

im pretty sure there would be some issue if they found out your keys were stolen and you didnt do anything to change your ignition if your bike gets stolen..
