Bought a 2010 R1...feedback

I have an 09, I think you'll love the bike. I've had 3 other sport bikes before this, this one is REALLY fun ! I wouldn't buy the Yosh cans right away, the heat wasn't THAAT bad except for on very hot days where it was quite bad. I bought an Akrapovic mid pipe and slipons. I didn't really plan to get the slipons but I got a good deal so I went for it.

If you buy the midpipe which eliminates the catalytic converter apparently you get rid of a LOT of heat. I haven't tried yet as I just got the stuff a few weeks ago but I will let you know.

As for power, the bike has lots. If you want more message me when riding season has started I will have some options for you in the ecu realm.

I really don't care which exhaust I get...just love the sound! It's an awesome blend of a 4 and twin. I miss the sound of my vtr and love the sound of my 9 with the hindle exhaust. If I can reduce the heat - bonus. Ya if this summer is like last yr..its going to be hot. Crap there was days I went out on the 9 for 2mns and said screw it and returned home....and I'm a landscape contractor..I can take the heat.

More power..um haha I think I'll do ok with the 150 for now....crap even the 130 the 9 has brings the devil out in me..

Best sounding litrebike to come out of Japan...ever.

Ugly tail end.
But that's Yamaha's fault for conceeding to fashion,by putting the exhaust way up there.

In the real world, a few hp less here or there won't make any difference, unless you plan to race it and need it to be competetive with the other bikes in the class. On the street, the R1 and every other sportbike has more than you could ever use without dying and/or going to jail.

For me, the sound would be a perfectly good enough excuse to buy it over the CBR......unless the CBR had ABS,LOL

Easy fix for the hot bum and ugly tail problem

With a simple draft shield, the tail end cleans up nicely and the side exhaust makes the sound even better.

Mine sounds like a big block V8.

Three words: who cares, shut up

Anyone who finds it funny when someone makes such a funny screw-up and posts it for the world to see. :)

As in usual Yamaha fashion, there's a pronounced dip in power where you want a good midrange punch. Otherwise it seems about on par with the other bikes, save for the Fireblade which has gobs of usable midrange.

All that matters it that you're excited about the bike. I agree on the sound of the crossplane motors, it's awesome. I also really like the R1 styling.

LOLz, I 2nd the Yamaha torque curve, so ugly. Plus it seems to have one of the least torque. I thought the idea of the crossplane was to get better torque output? Not to say any of this will really matter on the street.

Love the styling of the head tho

The idea was never more torque. Its about traction.

You endup riding around at 6000rpm anyway, atleast I did. A little ecu tuning will probably go a long way.

Yeah 4-6k is probably the most important spot for a street bike. Thats where you'll be cruising and thats generally where you'll be getting on the throttle to pass, mess around, etc. Thats why the fireblade is my choice for street literbike. You can really feel the difference.

Did not know there were or can be such days!
Too hot to ride!?!?!?

You're kidding me right...?
40c and sweating down my face cause my head can't breath from the helmet..thats always fun.

You whats crazy, if you get a chance, take a temp gun and point it at the pavement to get a reading...its going to be way hotter the air temp.
(I use it for the winter sometimes for pre-treating and de-icing etc)

This was the 1st yr the kubota overheated..and its a liquid cooled diesel. I hope its not as hot next yr..
