Looking for Winter Storage place

slowbird

Well-known member
Like previous years, I am looking for winter storage. I never found a place last year (ended up putting it in a friends garage and it got damaged...so no more garages!) so I'm starting my search early this year in hopes of finding someplace suitable.

PLEASE DON'T REPLY/PM UNTIL YOU HAVE READ WHAT IT IS EXACTLY THAT I AM LOOKING FOR!

I am looking for a storage place where I will have access to the bike, and be able to work on it.

If anyone has a spot somewhere they can rent out to me, please let me know.

If anyone knows of a good storage place, please let me know.

If a few members on here wanna go splits on a place we can discuss that too.

Thanks!:)

go get a storage unit...it'll cost you, but give you want you want...look for one that offers indoor spaces...they come as small as 5x10 i believe...probably around $80/month...

Do storage units provide electrical outlets? Would that be a necessity for work you want to do slowbird?

In my experience most don't however most do have a bulb with a light switch...easily can put a plug adapter in. Cheapest kind of light fixture, so they are popular.

I am entertaining the idea of getting a storage unit. Some are climate controlled, some aren't....the electrical outlet thingy can be resolved using BimmerMikes suggestion.....however some places won't let you do work on your bike in the unit.
So if anyone knows a good storage place than pls PM me. :)

The main reason I posted this thread is in the event someone has a work area or a large storage area where they could use another paying member. I had a spot 2 winters ago where there were about 5 of us, and we all shared a work shop and it was absolutely perfect!! Heated, 24hr access, Well secured, and allowed me to work on my old VF500 throughout the winter...and I got alot of work done.

Would love someplace like that again. :(

If you do get a storage unit, get 10x10 at least if you want to work on it. I've got my bike in a 5x10 right now and its real tight, enough space to comfortable move the bike in and out, and put it on a stand to lube the chain, but anything involving taking a fairing off and it starts to get cramped.

Thanks for the tip. I was wondering what size would be good.

Some around here have 8X10

There is a ridiculously expensive place near the go station in burlington, called work n store. would be good for a few guys to do what youre talking about. the garages are pretty big

Thanks for the tip. Got a number/address/website?

Can't seem to find it online.

I was quoted $225/month for a climate controlled 10x20 unit in Milton. Confirmed you can work on the vehicle but there is an extra charge if any fluids soak into the floor or you damage anything. Considering getting one to work on my 944 and bike over the winter but it's a little expensive. Not sure about outlets.

kneedragger88 (Ken McAdam) has done winter storage in the past (not sure if he's doing it this year). He'll pick up and drop off your bike, plus I think he'll give you a discount on any mechanical work you need done while it's in storage.

Thanks. I stored my old VF500 with him once...but as i mentioned in my original post:

That actually sounds pretty sweet. Too bad it's in Bowmanville. Too far.

Good last resort though.

There was a guy in Whitby i believe, who was looking to rent out his garage recently.
It was huge, had power and heat. The people he was renting it too had left for another location.
But i know its a little far from B town

Thanks for the heads up. Is he on this board?
