off duty cop tries to run me off the road for lane filtering....

wicked entertainment in the morning
*sips coffee*

Proceed!

This thread is now about Paul getting bashed.

Surprised he didn't give anyone a ban or infraction.

inb4 i get a PM.

lawl.

Last week I stopped in a WalMart parking lot.. pulled out a shotgun and started shooting into the air.. An off duty cop came over, flashed his badge, and told me to stop it or he'd get me arrested.

What a *********!!! I hate cops.

You're comparing discharging a firearm in a public parking lot to passing a few cars that are stopped??? bahahahahah

If you wanna use that comparison, as silly as it may be it should be more like this.

Last week I stopped in a WalMart parking lot.. pulled out a shotgun and started shooting into the air.. An off duty cop came over, FIRED A COUPLE SHOTS PAST MY HEAD, THEN FLASHED HIS BADGE AND TOLD ME TO STOP.

Hang on...so you go into other vehicles lanes....but when someone comes in to your lane..it's a problem?

Sounds to me like he was just filtering too.

I'm not for or against splitting or filtering...but pick a side!

wow. did you forget to sign on as turbodish before posting that ?
;)

2 wrongs dont make it right. but last time i checked, what he described the cop doing isnt filtering, its cutting off and stopping in front of a bike.

If lane splitting were legal, and if I still rode street, the last place i'd choose to lane split is in the GTA. Seriously, if you lane split in this great metropolis of ours you should expect to wake up surrounded by Paramedics. If you're lucky.

I kinda agree with the Reciprocity comment but i have to say it isn't all their fault. To get an M1 you have to get 16 out of 20 in a sit down test and have decent eyesight.

I've seen a few girls guys ride with..I think some riders might be legally blind.

Edit: And vice versa just to be gender neutral here...

LOL...that made me laugh...good one...LOL

At least you agree that the OP was the first wrong! :)

Ya both people were wrong paul, but you dont endanger someones life for something silly. How would you feel if a cop tried to run you off the road because you didnt use a turn signal next time you were out on your bike? Both original offences are actually comparable (unlike mr. discharge firearm in a parking lot hahahah)

I'm willing to bet that if a car didn't use a signal...and that action caused you to run into him....it wouldn't be so silly...would it... ;)

This thread isn't even an hour old, and already it is totally apparent why society in our country and ON specifically, (and GTA even more specifically) would never embrace filtering for the sense that it makes if it is done properly. So far the OP has indicated a pretty non-aggressive stance with their filtering, even when threatened with this *******'s CAR! Physically threatened with a vehicle over 5 times his bike's weight. Paul, I am amazed that you claim the offduty/ ******* was only 'filtering' also. How in hell can you see it that way, when he forcibly (and for no reason other than to bully and make a you-ain't-gettin'-to-work-sooner-than-me statement) went into the OP's lane to squeeze and intimidate?

Comments like this ooze evidence that you all have spent too much time in GTA, sitting in traffic alongside too many drivers who shouldn't even be behind the wheel. You all are fed up with an over-saturated roadway infrastructure and your patience/attitude has adopted a more child-like stance, rather than realize that if smaller vehicles can filter through and get to where they are going faster, simply because they can, you can't stand the idea that someone else's life might be just a tad better for that split moment in time. It is a quite simply a very selfish attitude.
And if any of you doubt that, and support some bully cage wannabe cop using his ****ing CAR (and badge) as a road weapon, then you get what you deserve. Hopefully the badge was a fake.

Awe someone forgot his happy pill this morn... I've got extras if you need?!?

You certainly have lived in a country all your life where filtering is not legal, but what the heck has rudeness to do with that???? This is the problem with Canadians who think if I cannot do that (in the car) why should he/she on the bike. Somebody decides to filter, it's their choice, possibly their ticket. Are you going to call people who go by you in a left lane over the speed limit rude as well???

In my opinion it is rude. And yes I have spent my riding career riding in Toronto and throughout Canada. Lane splitting and filtering is illegal here. And agreed its their choice until they enter the lane beside me... now they have jepordised (yep my spelling sucks) my safety as well as took away MY CHOICE of being in that situation.

If I rode elsewhere I would adapt to the local rules and follow them there as I do here.

Wait, filtering through STOPPED traffic slowly is the same as a car coming into you lane while moving?? This somehow appears to be the same thing to you??? hahahahah

Yes its both illegal. People here don't expect it and when I have seen it I have seen at least one car try to cut the biker off. Its not like the space is just there so they use it... they also have to deal with the cars that are purposely aiming to hit them.

Its ok... I have lots of extra happy pills... you can have one too!!! :D

Hugs to the people who still feel like its Monday.

What?? Are you even reading whats being written here? lol

The original poster broke a law, nothing major, not endangering anyones life
The cop on the other hand endangered his life
I dont know how you guys cant understand this, and how you're trying to spin it. Common sense in this case would suggest its ridiculous to endanger someones life for a silly offence such as the op has done, not using the turn signal was a comparison to what he did. I dont know where hitting someone while not using a turn signal came from. I believe at this point you're digging for an argument because you realized your original post was silly to say the least.

+10000000

I have twice this summer had another bike come filter past me.... I am on my bike too. Like really? Its rude enough to the cars but to other bikers... wtf.

Ya I hate cars lane sharing but when bikes do that to me it's really annoying cause they should know better...and they do but are being just plain obnoxious and rude, plus they're really asking for it, I saw a guys on the DVP pass by me really fast while everyone was doing 10-20 km at 5 pm, it kinda even shook me up cause sometimes when the traffic going slow like 5 km for fun I just swerve in my line rather than going straight and this guy on his SS was really quite he just passed me at 40-50 km and kept filtering through, I could have really hit him...

cops get road rage too apparently
he could have easily rolled down his window flashed his badge at the light and berated you then... the whole cut off manuever is dangerous, unsafe, and not at all professional for someone sworn to serve and protect

i generally don't filter, but when/if I do, I expect to get an angry honk or upset motorist... What I don't really expect is someone to try and use their vehicle as a weapon against me after the fact.

So are you for or against lane filtering/splitting?

Let me guess...it's okay for you to do it...but not okay to have it done to you??

Its ok if bikes do it....theres a reason its legal in many parts of the world.

Tell me how the hell is a car going to come filter between two bikes at a stop light, WITHOUT endangering someone??? Say what you want in your defense buts its not like we're a huge moving road block or some big vehicle that just parked up in front of you and is going to slow you down...most of the times we're gone before the cars are even rolling

To the people saying its rude...seriously give me a break. It must also be rude for a vehicle with more than 2 people to use the HOV lane...why should they be allowed just because of an extra person, would you also say its rude for single drivers to be commuting in such huge gas guzzling trucks taking up such a large amount of space on the road??

You people that think like this are a farce, getting your panties in a bunch over something so little. Thats why we have such a pansy system which probably won't change anytime soon

None of you have ever heard of exaggeration??

I'd wager a large sum this situation wasn't nearly as bad as the OP made it sound.

Even the most honest chap will embellish a tad when they're angry.

We missed the part where its not legal here... its not expected and therefore can be a shock to suddenly have a bike zip past you... therefore rude.

And yes I do think its rude for people with large *** vehicles to be on the road. Its hurting the environment AND 90% of them don't know the size of their own vehicle.

As for panties... you are assuming we even wear panties ;)

Cars can filter??? Which ones?

You've never had it happen to you? Never had a car pass you, in your own lane? Never had a car start cutting between a group of bikes, out on a group ride. All that I can say, is that you must be very lucky.

You'er saying not using a signal or lane filtering is a silly offence...I'm simply showing you that it may not be a silly offence...it could very well be a dangerous offence if someone gets injured.

Again...pick a side...it can't be "no big deal cause no one got hurt this time"...then "Well this crazy ****er didn't use his signal and I got hurt"

If I agree with your scenario......what the cop did was no big deal because no one got hurt!

The OP shouldn't have done what he did...because someone might have been hurt!...and the cop shouldn't have done what he did because someone could have been hurt!

Pick a side and argue it....don't choose one side this time cause no one got injured.....then choose another side if the same action caused an injury.

That's all I'm saying...

Well it isn't here, so people don't expect to find vehicles in no-mans'-land.

It's rude because it's selfish, unsafe, and illegal.

You people that think like this are a farce, getting your panties in a bunch over something so little. Thats why we have such a pansy system which probably won't change anytime soon

You can't justify change, as a favour, for people who refuse to follow the rules in the first place.
