Help Us Be Track Day/Race Day Spectators

My girlfriend and I are noobs to motorcycles (just bought a pair of 250 ninjas), and would like to get into the SS/MotoGP (or whatever it is called) local race scene. We just want to watch this year. We are Toronto based, and prepared to drive a few hours in any direction. I'm sure there are a couple of choices, but feel free to make your recommendation.

1. Where can we go to watch some MotoGP style races? A link to a specific webpage with schedule of races for july/august would be very appreciated.
2. Can we go to watch track days as spectators?

I've had a look at some websites, like TMP and SOAR, but did not find the information so easy to read. They seemed more geared towards rider training, registration, etc.

Can we just pick a day from here: http://www.motorcycletrackdays.ca/ show up, and expect to watch the racing (maybe from the stands, or sidelines)?

We'd be happy to see professional MotoGP-style racing (any CC is cool), but track days are just as welcome too. We just want to join the scene and watch the zooooooooooom :)

Any guidance you can share is much appreciated.

Great post. I would be interested in this as well I am sure my gf would like it as well. She does not ride but we are always looking for new friends and things to do!

There is SOAR, RACE and the Parts Canada Superbike series that you can go watch near here.

SOAR is at TMP and Grand Bend soon. RACE is at Shannonville. The only local round left in the PCSB series is at Mosport in August. To watch at any of them you'll have to pay to get in. TMP and Shannonville are good because you can see most of the track. Shannonville has better grandstands, TMP doesn't really have any.

The best "show" will be the Mosport round of the PCSB series. Get a weekend pass and go camping, watch some racing, walk through the pits, check out the bikes, drink some beers.

Most track day organizers (Pro6 etc) allow spectators at every track they go to. Their red group riders are fast, and would give you the "zoom" fix you're looking for. You can also watch the Nationals at Shannonville etc, but I believe they usually charge at the gate to get in. It's worth the money though, as there is A LOT of talent right now, and with the Superbike race you're guaranteed to see a good race! And the support is always welcomed!

Here is the link to the Parts Canada website which will give you the full schedule: http://www.csbk.ca/

H
ave fun!

Wouldn't reccomend mosport for spectating, costs a bit to get in and you only see 3 seconds of the race.

......... Very, very bad call, comments like this just ......... well, next time your at a Canadian race look around you, when you shake your head at the crowd (or lack there of) remember the post here ........ IF you don't like Mosport because of its "3 seconds of racing" (you must be watching from the toilet) I would ask you keep your uninformed opinion to yourself, its a fantastic place, the racing is great the speed is incredable its a world class race track (s'pecially if you have never seen a bike race there) this responce is just, well ........... Hmmmm GTA.com typical. BG

Just because you may disagree with an opinion Ben, doesn't mean they arent entailed to post it...just as your entitled to post yours. Let's not turn this into a war about who'srightor wrong.

Another vote for Mosport, it's kinda like Brands Hatch back home. Don't like your 2-3 second viewing spot, move on to another corner plenty of great spots to watch from.

Mosport Canadian National Round is the August 21st weekend. It will be the last round of the season and the racing will be great.
Set yourself up on the hill near corner 2 and enjoy the fastest/best racers in the country tackle one of the world's most challenging corners.
If you drive bring bicycles so you can get around the grounds and the paddock.

Well I myself would love to hear more about it as I have never made the drive to Mosport, but I am a die hard racing fan.

It sounds to me like Dricked is suggesting that you can only sit on the front straight perhaps???

(Ben G is obviously) Someone who is familiar with track layout and where spectators are allowed - any advice / thoughts on places to watch from at Mosport??

Another vote for Mosport, however my favorite is always Moss Corner (5?) as it has the most drama. I usually check out turn 2 for the 1000 cc race (for the sheer speed and the thrill of that blind left) and hang out at Moss for remainder of the day.

Arrived EARLY, check out the demo rides from at least a few MFG.

This year I weaseled out of a work trip to Houston in august just to catch the Superbikes at Mosport.

PS there are always group rides heading down for the weekend or just a day, I'm considering camping there this year (going riding in the area on sat after the first round)...

Mosport is carved out of a forest in the Oak Ridges Morraine. The terrain limits how much of the track you can see from any one spot. However, you can go just about anywhere and watch any corner. Turn 2-3 or Moss' Corner (turn 5) are the two best places to watch in my opinion.

Watching the first lap of any race with a big grid coming into turn 2 or turn 5 is an absolute ****-show.

Where to start?

Outside of track on corner 1 just past the tunnels to see them come hard off the start through corner 1.

Inside of the track on the hill between corners 2 and 3 to see them sweep over the crest at the start of 2 and dive into the blind downhill of a very fast corner 2. Lots end up on the grass here.

Outside of the track at corner 3 where you can see them come out of 2, set up for 3, and accelerate off before they disappear into the dip at 4.

Outside of the track at 5 to see them dive into 4, then come up a very steep rise into 5, the 90 degree corner that comprises 5A, the even tighter 90 degree corner that comprises 5B, and then accelerate through the left hand sweeper at 5C that leads onto the back straight. Very technical and often low speed contact here in the 5a and 5B apexes. If you're situated right, you can also see them accelerating and running hard half way up the back straight.

Outside of the track at 6, midpoint of back straight, for sheer speed and some wheel-lift on the hump there.

Outside of the track at corner 7, almost near the end of the back straight, where you can see them at peak speeds before they cut and lean hard for the broad corner 8 sweeper.

Inside of track at corner 9 where you can watch them come out of that corner 8 sweeper to negotiate the right-left-right S-bend leading onto the front straight. Outside of corner 9 for the higher up viewing point.

Sitting on the outside of the front straight to watch the start and finish.

I just like to see all the action, I've been to mosport a few times and watched the races. It is a world class venue and the speeds are awsome. I didn't say don't go watch at mosport. You have to atleast once but like I said, I prefer to see the whole battle not just the end result. My one comment is not keeping all of Canada from watchig races.

Problem there is that, as someone who 'failed' at corner 2, I'd have my eyes closed every time the riders came around.

Seriously though, each and every organisation (and track) named above could do with the support. If you want to go out and watch then good on you.

If you are interested in trackdays I always have a standing invitation to everyone wanting more information to be my guest at a Racer5 trackday. I can explain how the days work, how to get involved and as log as conditions permit also take you for a ride around the track (in the track truck).

If you are interested in coming out feel free to email me at Fawaz@racer5.ca

Best of luck!

Awesome replies, especially from Caboose and Turbodish. Thanks.

You could have started by attending the national round double header this past weekend at Shannonville. Great weather, great racing in all classes, and grateful racers for all the fans that did attend.....step right up.....we'd be happy to have you.

And what's all this negative nonsense about Mosport?

Thanks so much for the introduction to local events. Given a little googling, I've come up with this webpage:

http://www.mosport.com/schedules-a-...s/parts-canada-superbike-doubleheader-weekend

I believe this is the weekend in question, and the website has ticket prices and directions, etc. If this is the best "show" then here we shall go! Looks awesome! Woot, what a start!
