New Alpinestars jacket reeks.

I'm just throwing this out there to see what comes back. I ordered an Alpinestars airflow jacket that arrived today. Its brand new, but it stinks terribly of some sort of perfume or incense or something - specifically the padding seems to be where the smell is. Anyone else experience anything like this? I suppose its possible some person absolutely doused in this scent tried it on or something (although I cant for the life of me imagine why anyone would want to smell like this), but it seems sort of unlikely. I ordered it from Canadasmotorcyle.com. Any thoughts?

Buddhacide??? Just wear it and go run a hotbox..that should take care of it.

get a refund dude

Hey Buddhacide,

Sorry for the scent in the jacket. We usually try to catch these before they leave our warehouse. We have seen some of the Alpinestars jackets suffer from this sort of thing (to various degrees), we usually just send the bad ones back to Alpinestars. Though, in most cases, people find that the smell leaves after a wash or two.

If you'd like to return the jacket, please don't think twice about it. Give us a call or contact us by email. We'll even cover the return shipping for this type of return.

I have quite a lot of alpinestars gear, jackets to boots to gloves to suits.....none of them smell. They had a very muted / pleasant 'new' smell to them.

Maybe it was used?

That is the most likely. Someone did a nice sweat in it, and got it all bo'd up. Then either they, or someone in the shop to which it was returned, hit is with the Drakkar cannon to hide said BO.

Hey thats cool you're on here. I dont think I'll need to return it. Its not the end of the world, just very peculiar. I'm sure it will air out when I start using it. Any idea what it is? Do you think its just some dude in the factory with bad cologne or is it some sort of industrial thing?

I really dont think its used. And it doesnt smell like any "normal" perfume I've ever smelled. More like an incense.

I should note that I love Canadas Motorcycle and have had always had a top notch experience with them. This is in no way compromises that. Just a bit odd is all.

Not exactly sure what the exact cause is, though Alpinestars has warned us ahead of time that we might receive units that have this issue. Apparently the issue appeared during production in one of their factories.

In any case, thank you for the feedback and we'll keep a better eye on this in the future.

+1 for awesome customer care!
Will be shopping here next time I need something.

I'd put it in the dryer with no heat for a half hour. It would both soften up the garment, and probably get rid of the odour.

Alot of fancy chemical enginameering goes into reducing/masking smells of new products. There was probably a mid-production run batch with wonky consistencies that was either missed or within tolerances for QA.

...side note: I love Canadas Motorcycle :)

Seeing as this thread has been bumped, an update. I've worn the jacket all summer and the smell is still there, although it has faded some. I was mildly annoyed at first but I got used to it. I would suggest anyone else experiencing this return it because it doesn't go away on its own very easily. I still like the jacket though.
