Min wage increase

Timmie's combos are set up to scam people out of a buck. The included drink and doughnut are limited to specific items only, so if you want an iced tea with your combo instead of a Pepsi, or some doughnut that they consider not a regular doughnut, they charge you more. The kicker is they don't tell you you've 'upgraded', there's no way to know until you pay. They just throw the 'premium' item on your order and hope you don't notice the bump extra cost after taxes mix the price up a bit.

Tim's is good for setting up a meeting point, like for kijiji sales. I'll use their washroom but I stopped buying their food a few years ago.

Poorly written article. Not sure whether they did it intentionally or not. The author argues that prices weren't raised at tims due to competition which is not strictly correct. The prices weren't raised because head office said they could not be raised.

With all costs and revenues fixed except for any employee costs that exceeded ESA requirements, the only quick solution to retain profit levels was to cut back to ESA requirements.

Based on the numbers I have heard in the past, a franchise was barely worth it then. Pulling these increased costs out of profit could easily put owner profit below that of a minimum wage job.

$14.00 an hour in Toronto or Owen Sound. House in Toronto $1,000,000.00. House in Owen Sound $80,000.00.

Minimum wages could work in one spot but obviously not the other. In some places $14.00 an hour is not a bad job.

That is a good point. It might be wise for the government to look into a lower wage for depressed or rural areas. I see no reason why any place south of Algonquin can't pay the rate. Every Tim's I see is always busy as heck.

That's the problem with formulas. They only work if you have 1.75 kids. Similarly everyone's cost of living is different depending on whether you have a house or not, what kind of food you eat, car you drive etc.

never been a fan of the coffee, prefer McDonalds or Country Style
some decent choices for fast food if you don't want a burger

I stopped going as they couldn't seem to get me the items I had paid for
you know how you order, pay, get your coffee then go to the side for your food

several times my bagel or whatever is given to someone else
once my bag of food was given to the wrong guy who left with it
I start asking about my order, and he comes back in with the bag
hands it to the gal, she looks inside then hands it to me
"sorry for the confusion sir, but it's your responsibility to pay attention and get the order"

will never be back
Are you effin kidding me? I hope you didn't take the bag of returned food. I would b*tch like a mofo.
It seems many McDick's service has followed the path of my local joint....trash.

As far as all the debates about the Tims boycott that I have been seeing...aren't corps allowed to pay and revise benefits as they wish?
I wonder how all the people complaining would feel if someone took money out of their pockets. I don't care if they make tons of money, imo that is not the point. A corp has an obligation to make a profit.

I've had that happen before. The other person looked in the bag, poked around, handed it back and said "that's not mine". Then the worker tried to hand it to me. Not happening. I made them remake it.

My co-driver always goes ballistic when they **** up his order ... and I just sit there and laugh. Then ask, why do you keep shopping here? And then just agrees he shouldn't and it goes on and on and on ...

I was at a Timmies in Orillia and got the wrong muffins. I handed them back to the server and he got the right stuff. He also gave me the wrong ones saying that once they cross the counter they can't be put back on the shelf. He figured I might as well have them as throwing them in the garbage.

Error corrected
Reward to customer in way of free couple of muffins
Customer leaves with confidence in system

Sounds like a better business plan than the ones listed above.

Yup. Did the other guy wash his hands before rummaging through the bag?

On a different topic, for gods sake, for anyone falling into the "I didn't actually fact check **** before just reposting it on Facebook because it fits my argument" people out there, stop sharing this bit of stupidity.

If you take 20 seconds to actually fact check any of it, or even just do the basic math, you'll see that it's a bunch of total garbage. Quoted from a reply elsewhere:

First of all, let's start with the fact that minimum wage is going from $11.60 per hour to $14.00 per hour, not from $11.40. so before the increase, the gross pay would have been $464.00, not $456.00. Next, the net pay for a single person at $464.00 per week would be $391.91, not $307.81. Next the net pay on $560.00 per week would be $462.58, not $359.78. Therefore the net take home pay would increase by $70.67, not $52.03. Next, the pay increase will not bump you up into a higher marginal tax bracket. 52 weeks at $560.00 per week is still only $29,120.00 per year. The next increase in tax bracket doesn't occur until you reach $42,201.00 per year. finally, out of the $25.33 weekly increase in payroll deductions, $4.75 is for CPP, which will increase your CPP when it comes time to collect it, and $1.60 is for Employment Insurance, which will increase your EI claim if you ever have to collect it. Once again I ask, why do people insist on sharing things that they don't really know are correct?

But alas, it's making the rounds far and wide on Facebook.

If you see a friend post it, be sure to call them out and tell them that spreading fake garbage doesn't help their cause.

Fast food is a simple/complicated business.
Guy says take the muffins, We have to throw them out anyway. Mid level manager rips him for ' being part of a scam and accuses him of knowing the guy he gifted food to' ..... so perfect food gets tossed.
Later he tosses food and Mid level manager rips him for not getting orders right.

I truly feel for these people and nobody buys a franchise to 'give back to the community' , you buy the place to make a profit. A Tims franchise used to pay itself out in about 4 yrs, it was like printing money. Now they average 35 workers, thats about 6k per person , 235k a yr? i can see why they arent happy

Back to the minimum wage, I haven't kept up with our questionable vehicle insurance. IIRC the wage replacement portion of the policy was based on the minimum wage. If you wanted more you had to pay for it even if you were not at fault. With the minimum wage going up will that number increase?

Not everyone thinks the same way Joe. Some see profit as a bad word

In a publicly traded company profit is the only word.

On August 26, 2014, Burger King agreed to purchase Tim Hortons for US$11.4 billion;[11] the chain became a subsidiary of the Oakville-based holding company Restaurant Brands International on December 15, 2014, which is majority-owned by Brazilian investment firm 3G Capital.[12]

So basically a bunch of Brazilian investors are expected to worry about whether a Canadian doughnut slinger gets a coffee break or not?

They don't care about the slums on their own doorsteps.

BTW I don't buy gourmet coffee, Starbucks etc, but don't care if a McD, TH, Country Style etc goes up a dime a cup or doughnut.

BTW #2 Those pictures of Brazilian slums are glimpses into the future. Maybe your children or grandchildren after the Liberals are through with us.

BTW #3 The coffee shops brag about sustainable coffee sources. They don't brag about sustainability when it comes to workers.

I get $400 a week after my no fault accident. What was the min wage salary a week?
On my next insurance it would cost me $120/yr to bump it up to $1000.
