Recent movies you saw - recommend or no

Agree. The Guest was pretty damn good. Given their budget and the lack of stars - very impressive work.

Watched it yesterday. Any budget was spent on the gun scenes but it was an ok watch. BTW, who the heck lets their daughter go out wearing stuff like that (not that i'm complaining)?

American Sniper - Good solid entertaining war movie but I didn't feel it was the amazing piece that film critics are saying it is.

The Hobbit - If you liked the first two in this trilogy you'll enjoy this one. The first half was pretty dull and the final 15min could have been lopped off but there's some great fight scenes in the second half. I enjoyed the LOTR series more.

There's been several movies lately that have underwhelmed me despite critical praise such as Foxcatcher, Get on Up, Theory of Everything and Unbroken. Seems they all look good on paper but the end product falls short. I enjoyed American Sniper but it wasn't near the top of Clint Eastwood's best films. Biggest disappointment of 2014 was Godzilla, what a mess.

Imitation Game - Lives up to the praise that critics are giving it. Excellent movie that I knew nothing about. Didn't think Keira was the right person casted when I saw her first couple appearances in it but she fit in nicely after that.

Big Hero 6 - Another great animation flick. Lot's of laughs in this one. Recommended for any age.

John Wick, fantastic action movie

I found The Guest to be more of a cheap horror movie with an action twist. It was ok to watch once, but I wasn't impressed and don't plan on watching it again.

I Origins

I Origins Official Trailer (2014) HD: http://youtu.be/Mk4briOLrTQ

This is on my to watch list as well. I already have a copy, just need to find the time to watch it.

Her was actually pretty good. It's among the recent wave of movies that talk about machines (or enhanced humans) transcending our level of consciousness. It's actually probably one of the better ones, if not the best one.

Automata is kinda in a similar direction and is pretty good as well (a bit more action and less romance). I would actually recommend it. Transcendence was crap. Lucy was ......decent but kinda disappointing. They could have done a lot more with the ideas. The Machine was also decent for a low budget indie flick dealing with the same subject matter. Plus, the main girl is hot so that's a bonus. ;)

American Sniper - It was a pleasant surprise. Decent action sequences, a bit heavy on justifying the war in Iraq, some coverage of PTSD... Not the greatest movie I've ever seen, but worth a watch

Whiplash was a sick movie. One of the best I've seen recently. I was expecting something in the vein of Black Swan from the synopsis and some of the comments form people but it was something different altogether. Very motivating and I can actually relate to it in a way. If you've ever had a passion for something and wanted to be the best, you have to see it.

Thumbs up for Imitation Game. If you want to know why exactly that home robbery happened, watch Codebreaker (2011). Same story about the same genius, but focused on his personal life rather than the mission.
