1998 ZX9R Has been making a noise pretty much since I got the bike. (1month).

Does not do it all the time. Mostly when it is cold. If I rev it up higher that "needed" before releasing the clutch ob take off it seems like it chatters/rattles.

Is this a sign if a worn clutch, or other problem?

I have zero slippage right now.

if the noise seems to be coming from the clutch area, you may have to open the cover and inspect the outer fingers of the basket, the friction plates may have notched groves causing room for the plates to stick, also have you checked carb sync and is it running on 4 cylinders off idle?

As far as i know it is running on 4 at idle. It starts real well and does not need to be chocked much/at all.

It was supposed to be tuned up just before i got it, if that means anything.

is the cover on the left hand side? (sitting on the bike)

My 98 zx9r will give light backfiring or popping noise through the carbs, mine is probably a jetting issue. My bike hates the cold. Just a thought.

you might want to check for tight intake valves on that 98 zx9r. just another thought.
