One of those days.

Tired out of my brain trying to get the FZ8 sorted for the kid.

Leaving for the US in the morning - lovely weather forecast.

Battery is dying. I can charge it tonight and get it going but stressy to ride anywhere with a dying battery.

Loaner, rental, ideas?

Canadian Tire is open at 8 am but not sure what they have.

:(

Believe I have a 12...What are the measurements of yours? Your welcome to this one if it will help you out...and it fits

Big thumbs up to kneedraggin for an effort to help out. Just a bit too far....but

couple hours later the trickle charger showed full.

It was hard to start and had to crank for a bit as if flooded ( tho wrong terms for injection ) then caught….and settled down - it cranked for a good while without pause so battery seems okay.

Wonder if instead of low battery it was just not wanting to start earlier as the charger said it was full.

I've had this happen once before - when I opened the gas cap tonight there was quite woooosh as the pressure equalized - I was down to about 2 litres of 15.

I topped up with premium instead just to give a bit extra cleaning

I think I'll order up a battery for enroute - there is a great dealer just about on our route who is very likely to have one

Someone mentioned that the FI needed enough juice and would turn over but not fire.

But in the driveway it restarted immediately and at the service station..

ANy thoughts?

If you have such a loud suction sound from opening the gas cap you better lift up the tank and look for crimped breather hoses.
Get a flashlight and gently pull up the hoses and push them back down (tank being held up in air or rolled up on the hinge).
put the tank as far down as you can that allows your had to fit under and push the hoses down then gently lay the tank down as the other person looks with the flashlight to ensure you don't crimp any hoses.

If the battery dies then yes your FI system will shut down on some bikes. The FI system needs battery power.

Did you consider it could be your rectifier or alternator killing the battery?

It is a huge job to get to the gas tank on his ride (burgman 650) as it is under the storage compartment that is under the seat.

He's got enough on his plate atm. Hopefully there be will no need for that. On the upside an FZ8 tank is near the top.

After doing some reading apparently the no fire once in a while is random but common issue with the Burgman 650
They generally start immediately with no throttle....but reading through the threads every once in a while they just have a hard time starting ( needs some throttle) and stumble a bit then run normally.
No one has pinned it down as to a specific cause
Mine has done it a couple of times over the years. We'll see.
It's due for a battery anyways so hopefully will snag one at http://www.arkportcycles.com which is on the way down, open early and great service ( helped me with the shredded tire last PA run )
It's an amazingly large operation for a tiny little town.

LOL, I thought you were working on the FZ8. That'll teach me to read every single word like a good Boy Scout. Anyway, I hope it's all sorted soon and have a good trip.:)
