The CAT high-speed ferry is returning in 2019 with service between Bar Harbor, ME and Yarmouth, Nova Scotia

Hopefully they'll get the ridership needed to keep the service running!

Good news ...might change my riding plans this summer

Don't worry the NS govt. Can not afford to loose the $30 million given to them..the ferry will keep rinning.

$200 for you and your bike gets you away from some good roads and sights.Nah.

$200 US to save 1000- 1200 km - seems a deal to me.

By the time you add fuel and an overnight there is not much in it.

Going the "scenic route" you are up for 1161 KM Yarmouth to Bar Harbor

versus 3.5 hours on the Cat Ferry

Your route is mostly boring roads.I would ride the twistier stuff and see the sights.Prolly add 500 km to your route.Unless it's just about saving money, then leave the bike at home and take a plane or train.Just my opinion.i don't understand yours.

Twisty roads in New Brunswick and southern Nova Scotia eh ....sure ...whatever.
These guys count the Trans-Canada as a twisty road.

I'd much rather spend the days in New England where there ARE twisty roads and mountains.

I prefer to find my own routes. One of the really nice stretches is between Parrsboro and Joggins.Lots of great tourist spots all around.

I really liked 201 when i was out there. Not exhilarating, but a nice scenic ride. Avoid the 10x, they blow donkey nuts.
I needed gas while riding 201 and the closest gas station (according to gps) was in new brunswick something like 30km by air or 800 km by road.
Personally, i would ride around, but to each their own, hopefully the ferry isnt another financial disaster. It should help west nova scotia get lots more tourist dollars.

depends on your time-line if that ferry appeals to you or not
biggest advantage I see is skipping the Quebec part of getting to NS
not that I dislike Quebec, it's just the roads required are dreadful

the TC part that goes through NB I don't mind, sure it's not twisty
but it is a very nice stretch of pavement with little traffic
nice sweepers and great visibility that allows for some spirited riding

If you go north from the GTA to Rouyn Noranda and across the Northern Transcanada and stay north of Montreal then across to the Saguenay Fjiord and Mauricie Park that avoids all the crap in lower Quebec then cross the river higher and head over to Gaspe. We enjoyed that tho the weather on the north side of the St Lawrence was dreadful.
I don't like to backtrack so going straight to Bar Harbor after Nova Scotia is well worth it.

and Maine has a ton of good roads
as does Vermont ( tho I hope they fixed them ) then back via Saranac and White Mountain then up to the 401 and blitz home.

The ferry offers an interesting option, and when east coast weather turns, as it sometimes does, shortcuts can be handy.

Don't forget the price. $267 usd

If I recall, you can go between Digby and Saint John for about $100CAD on a motorcycle.
