Yamaha R3 - first review!

Hey everybody - as far as we can tell, Canada Moto Guide has the first ride review of the new Yamaha R3! Check it out here!

Seems Editor 'Arris is a fan!
Wow, looks awesome! Nice price too! No ABS though? Strange.

"MSRP is $4,999 (black) & $5,099 (red & blue), which is only $9 more than in the US (good job Yamaha Canada!)."

Needs to be 4 cylinders with a 20k rev limiter and 20 or 30 more horsepower but whatever, still nice.

So no ABS in North America but is available in other markets? I thought we finally moved past that level of stupidity...

Standard ABS would have made the bike the most expensive option out of the 4. Let's all remember a time (like 3-4 years ago) when ABS never existed on entry level bikes and give Yamaha a pass on this one. Great bike!

kudo's to yamaha for no abs and keeping the price down.....simple=beautiful

yes i have emailed Yamaha several times about why no ABS on most of their bikes. I am getting a new bike in a few weeks and am still torn about which
way to go. I like the Ninja 300 and the R3 due to it being fast enough but also cheap insurance (here <400cc is really cheap compared to >400cc)
But also on the table is the FZ07.

as for the abs thing. i have been riding a long time now and have had several bikes with abs and no abs. In all my many km of riding i have never once felt
the abs activate. So i may be ok with no abs. This R3 sure looks nice and if the build quality is up to same as the S-Max scooter i just got it will be a great bike.
Impressed that as far as i can see it comes with good tires instead of stock IRC like the Ninja (R3 looks to have Michelin Pilot Street tires)

i have priced out the ninja on a new 2014 Ninja 300 SE abs. Out the door price is $6269(works out to be about same price as the R3) and the 2015 Ninja 300 SE abs is approx 700bux more that the R3 ($7053) and for that money i think i would be better off going a bit more and get the Fz07.

The no ABS, even as an option is about Yamaha undercutting Kawasaki on price in this class.
Even with ABS, the bike would be cheaper than the Ninja or the RC390.
I like the bike, a lot, but I fear that the 2016 model will have ABS, killing the resale value of the 2015 model.
The big question is how much it would cost to retrofit the European ABS system to the CDN bikes.
I also suspect 2015 model will sell out fast, because the $5K price was announced just before the CDN dollar tanked.

Here's a race between Rossi, Lorenzo, Espargarò and Smith on R3s. Looks fast enough.
