I ride a Yamaha scooter.

It came from the factory with a 160 tire at the rear... what does it mean? Take it seriously or not?

Seriously, I would not get too fixated on one single number (tire width).

Yamaha designed this Tmax scooter I ride with 40 HP and decided to fit a 160 rear tire (on a 15” rim).

Now Yamaha is designing this new bike with about 40 HP (same) with a 140 rear tire (on a 17” rim).

Does it mean the scooter is good and the R3 is going to be bad? Nope, I don’t think so.

A 140 tire is the first limiting factor. A scooter with 160 tire is way better off.
