I've been doing some research on-line about this bike and was wondering what the general impression is here on GTAM.

I tried the search option and it didn't bring anything up so I apologize if this is a repost.

I am 22, M2 for a year with clean record, just sold my 250. Honestly I cant afford an SS insurance wise and maybe it wouldn't be best to jump to just yet, the FZ8 has a cool look and a more comfortable riding position I will definitely use it for some long haul rides but an R6 is my final goal. I would want to make this purchase soon, I plan on riding it until the snow falls, I don't mind the cold.

My other option is the SV650SA, I have not called in for insurance on the FZ8 yet, I am hoping I can get a good quote, possible less than the 650 which is at 2344 for minimal coverage.

Also this will be a bike I will have for many years, I am going brand new with this one.

Thanks,

According to brampton powersports on facebook, that is the fz-09

I love the bike! It's def on my list.
Took it on a demo and it's perfectly balanced. Very torquey as well so careful with it. Take it out on a demo day. Best way to determine if it's the right bike for you.

My opinion on the r6 is it's stupid uncomfortable. After riding your fz8, you'll want to throw away your r6 n go back to the fz8. There are other 600's that are much more pleasing to ride...but to each their own

You can't search for "FZ8" or other 3 letter words on GTAM. It doesn't tell you that, but you'll get no results. You can use google to search any specific site you want. Go to google and type in the box:

site:gtamotorcycle.com FZ8

That will search this site for every mention of FZ8 ;)

The bike was introduced to USA dealers in Las Vegas the 2nd week of June, although they were NOT allowed to touch it.
It's called "MT09" in the USA & Europe, and here they call it "FZ09".
Haven't figured out why.........yet.

Likely being discontinued when the MT-09 comes out. Being that the FZ8 will only be a sold for a few years, aftermarket mods and support are likely to be limited. I'd wait for the MT-09 unless you're getting a FZ8 for dirt cheap

Saw that they're selling them $6499+ tax if you look around.

^ this.

Don't wait for the MT-09 models, they're selling the FZ8's super cheap now because those MT-09's are coming out! Plus, it's a new model/platform of bike (motor & chassis), so there's good potential for things to go wrong in the first year or two... that means MORE waiting if you want one. Not to mention that the lack-of adjustable suspension on the FZ8 is the most criticized thing about these bikes, and apparently the 2013's on sale have adjustable suspension - check for that if/when you decide to buy.

Also, some insurance companies provide rates based on engine size AND classification, so I doubt it'll be cheaper for you to have an FZ8, vs. a 600cc bike.

+1. i have an 04 r6 now and i test rode the fz8. the difference in seating position is insane. i love my r6 but after a while riding i find myself hoping for a red light so i can stretch my back out a bit. the fz8 i can ride all day.

Check out http://www.fz8-forum.com/forum . Lot's of aftermarket mods and support available for the 8. There was a FZ09 at Biker Boyz 10 last Sunday on display: they cheaped out on the seat, handle bars and gauge cluster. Exhaust is fugly, looks hard to modify... Other than that, it was thinner and lighter (of course, being a 3 cyl) and had great seating position (very similar to the 8). Aftermarket for the FZ09 will take a while to catch up to the 8...

It is an awesome deal, but the lowest quote I have gotten is 4k :( ..........

I hate this province, make matters worse a really cool one drove by me today, first time I saw it on the street and it looked even better in person....

I bought a 2012 FZ8 last December. So far, I'm loving it. Relaxed riding position and more than enough power to keep me entertained.

Be careful of these dealers and their "advertised price". I got mine at Brantford Motorcycle. It was $7999, (good deal, at the time) plus HST, so $9038.87, out the door... no freight, PDI, or "administration fees". They didn't even charge me license fee.
My buddy called Brampton Powersports last week to check out their $6999 price for a 2013. It turned out to be $9077, out the door. I have no idea what all the "extra fees" were.
