Yamaha Canada - No Accountability

How many Kms when the ticking started. I'm putting as many on the bike as I can so that if anything goes I might be able to catch it before the warranty runs out

Gotta love Suzuki. I got my master cylinder replaced on a 10 yr old bike plus new throttle cables. All at zero cost!

Thanks Suzuki!

suzuki has ALOT of experience dealing with recalls so they are very efficient ;)

Don't think they're without issues too. Kawi has that awful green problem :lmao:

I find the Kawis have the worst cam chain noise/tension issues out of all the big 4 manufactures. And I own 3 of them, all have the tensioner replaced with aftermarket at my expense, for piece of mind, as in most cases its just noise and not actually causing any damage or loss of performance.

In 2001 I bought a brand new R6, within the first year my battery took a dump and all the battery fuilds leaked out into my battery tray. There is a drain hole in one corner that allowed the acid to flow onto my rear shock and my swingarm and chain. All of the parts were stained and corroded by the acid, went to CycleWorld West where I bought it with print outs from message boards of hundreds of other R6 owners with the same problem. In the USA guys were getting new swingarms and rear shocks replaced under warrenty. They basically told me I made it all up and to beat it, I wasnt getting nothing unless I paid for it... I gave up eventually bought a new battery and just lived with the stains....Too much stress trying to get someone at the dealer or Yamaha to pay for it

Suzuki probably never expected there to be a 10 year old bike still on the road...kinda like Hyosung not expecting a bike to make it to 2-3 years...lol

Mine has 15k, I got it with 6k and the noise was already there, I just wasn't sure what it was.

Sorry to hear you got given the run-around dealing with this issue. I have replaced a few cam chain tensioners under warranty (on the FZ09's) and that usually solves the problem most customers are reporting. I won't speak to how another dealer or head office handled the situation, but I can definitely understand your frustration.

One of the issues we have noticed with the new engine designs from Yamaha is that they have made cases and case covers thinner than ever in some places. This leads to more noise being transmitted out to the rider's ear. I personally find the new motors to be much louder than previous generations. That obviously isn't the case here, as you are experienced enough to know the difference, but in general the removed material is making the motors louder. If it brings any piece of mind, not a single engine from the FZ09's (or FJ09's for that matter) has suffered a catastrophic failure due to the cam chain tensioner. (Source: I asked the service department leads the last time I chatted to them).

Hopefully your FZ09 gives you many more years of trouble-free fun.

Definitely there are worse things to go wrong and in the scale of things the CCT is not such a big deal, but something about this situation definitely rub me the wrong way as normally I just brush this kind of stuff off and fix it and move on. Shouldn't be so complicated. Anyways in done ranting about it.
