Worth it to move up in cc?

None of my "mature" riding friends pay more than $1000/yr. For their litre+ bikes.

anyone not paying $1000+/yr for a modern superbike has likely either been riding a 'long' time with a clean record or they live in Narnia 😁

other kinds of 1000cc+ can lean more to model specific risk profiles.

What @Evoex said - I'd sure like to see the details on those policies as that seems ridiculously low. I think the cheapest insurance I ever had was $600/year on my old VTX and that's with all my years of experience and insurance history, and I'm no spring chicken. To be <$1K/year on a litre bike seems unfathomable.

Maybe the litre+ means cruisers not sport bikes. There may also be holes for those with money where you buy something like an MVA that is rarely bought (and crashed) by squids.

It's very model and year dependent, but mostly location.

The last 3 years I bought and sold probably 6 or so bikes, often owning 3 at a time. From 250 CCs to a 1600 (albeit cruiser). I am always looking for "the" bike (or two), but realizing I'm pretty happy with my current Ninja 1000.

Theoretically a 250 will get you around town - of course. But I couldn't stand the first 2 gears of a tiny bike, constantly upshifting immediately to get to a more powerful gear was a hassle, and I ended up not enjoying it - despite liking the ergos.

I love having the extra power of a 1000 while being upright and not hunched into racer position. I don't think I can go back to anything lower, but that's just my opinion.

My FJR 1300cc is currently $920/year with Desjardins (multi discount).

I used to ride a Busa 1300, it was the same price as the FJR.
