Wolf Island Ferry to the US (Cape Vincent)

The ferry from Wolf Island, near Kingston, to the US has been out of operation for quite a while as the ferry was up for sale and the Canadian side customs border post needed repairs/updates.

There’s news that the ferry has been bought and might be up and running as soon as next Summer (for those of you travelling to the US) with a temporary Canadian customs post. Regardless of if you visit or boycott currently this has been a really neat way to fit in a ride to the Adirondacks or New York State for years. The Kingston-Wolf Island ferry has also been updated to a larger boat and once many of the wrinkles are sorted out this combination offers a great way (and a scenic way) to get to the US from the Canadian side.

Us locals thought it would never come back but it’s good to see there’s a demand. Apparently a large number of Cape Vincent residents used the ferry and they pushed the economic argument for reinstating the crossing too.

Thanks for the update, looking forward to some VT/NH rides next summer and border crossings are always annoying. This sounds like a nicer way to get across.

It definitely is way more scenic and way more relaxing. Cape Vincent is a nice place to disembark too. There’s a really nice picturesque lighthouse a minute or two away down the lake shore and some historic battlefield monuments nearby. All the lakeside towns have good dining options too. Because the ferry has limited capacity there’s never a wait at customs either. I’m looking forward to using the ferry again but in a few years when the madness has left.

As I understand it the holdup is the Canadian Customs trailer with Port-a Potties is just not good enough by today's standards.
The government will probably have to replace it with a new facility worth a billion dollars.
If the ferry ever gets back running I hope the service that the Horn family was noted for is the same under the new owners.
Back in 2018 I was returning from the US and my bike would not start because of a fried relay.
I managed to push the bike off the ferry and up the hill to customs.
After another trip the operators decided it was time for lunch on the other side of the island.
They loaded my Suzuki in the back of a truck and gave me ride to the other ferry to Kingston.
After unloading me I offered to buy them lunch but they refused.
Finally after pushing my bike on and off the ferry to Kingston Ktec came and picked me up.
Speaking of Ktec. Ross Poulter is deciding to retire and shut it down.
