Window shopping again

Quickshifter on the street triple went bad, apparently its a common issue, internet tells me the OEM supplier is not good, I tried to get the dealer to install an aftermarket one, they cant do it, apparently they found an "oily substance" near it and that could have caused it, supposedly its very sensitive, could have been ACF 50 or some chain lube could have flung, who knows 🤷‍♂️

$1100 all in
I`m callin` *cough cough * bullshite on that dealer decision. Imagine an oily substance on a motorcycle. :p

Note to self.

Wash bike WELL before taking it for service at dealer for warranty work.

Update on this....
I got a call last week from the dealer, saying the quickshifter has been replaced and installed and the bike is good to go, I went yesterday on my first day off to pick it up, 5 mins away from the dealer (powersports to) I get a text "we need to talk to you about your bike"

I get there, the guy (Ogi?) tells me the dash has stopped working...I tell them, it was working fine when I dropped it off? Apparently while they had the bike with them and were repairing the it, the dash stopped working...and now they have to figure out whats wrong with it...

I wonder how much more this is going to cost me

Just don`t let `em give you the "Sir there was grease on your motorcycle...that caused it" line. :p

Depending on how things shake out, narrowed it down to either vstrom 1000(gen 2) vs cbf1000

passenger carrying is still important
Both sound bikes - legendary when it comes to dependability. Im partial to the Vstrom, aftermarket upgradability, usually come tour ready (bags), considerable performance advantages, and 2up passenger comfort. And you can explore gravel highways.

You do you, both are great bikes!

Another update, it seems triumph HQ in the UK decided to cover the dash + labor under warranty, I suspect this is because it failed while sitting at the dealer, or maybe because the bike was just out of warranty, either way im just glad I dont have to pay 3k 😲 (on top of what I paid for the quickshifter)

I'm glad to hear that.

My tiger didn't come with QS from the factory, but rather an add-on. I remember reading plenty of stories saying that the quick shifter failed after a few months for those that installed it.

I looked up a while ago common issues with newer street triples, and Chatgpt was rather shockingly accurate, days after looking up the common probems, the quickshifter went, and then while sitting at the dealer, the dash went too...

This adds to my theory on dependability engineering for euro bikes (or lack there of). Japanese bikes are well tested, specifically integrations from outside suppliers if used.

Most euro motor vehicles are collaboratively designed with sub assemblies coming from a range of suppliers, often changing subassemblies and suppliers for dependability, cost and performance reasons. Japanese design everything, and thoroughly test everything, and make changes at the time of generational upgrades.

cbf1000 - Even tho I loved the power the lack of farkles in North America is limiting.
If you can find one with factory luggage maybe. This 2009 was $4300 4 years back. It's pretty much bullet proof motor but has poor fuel economy and small tank....decent windscreen was hard to find....and narrow.Screen Shot 2025-08-19 at Aug, 19 2025 5.20.51 AM.jpg
Two up ??? nahhonda-cbf1000-2009-8.jpg
Go with the Vstrom - I really enjoyed the 3 650s I had - 1000 would be better for two up.....oddly max weight is the same on both. Tons of farkles available.

**** still happens. My FJR had a full transmission replaced under a recall. Something about a metal being too soft for the job I think.
And this after 13 years of production.
