It's threads like this gem that keep me coming back here. I like how the entitled freak out when people oppose their ideas and that makes them close minded morons. How about don't drive like a ****** and you wouldn't have cop problems. The concept is far out man

Stop making sense...it doesn't allow for hysterical outbursts.

I don't have cop problems, I have legislator and insurance lobby problems - the police are just the bullies with the guns who collect money for them...which makes me not have much respect for them.

Have you ever been pulled over in Ontario? The unprofessional behavior is appalling when compared to police forces in the US like UHP or CHP...

Maybe if we let them work on actual problems in society rather than collecting revenue they might have more respect for themselves as well and act accordingly.

You're no doubt a white dude who never gets pulled over for ****. Being a man of color i get pulled over for doing nothing, then beaten down by LEO's for standing up for my rights.

Oh the race card. That **** is played friend. I get randomly stopped frequently simply because I'm on a ss. All cops are bad is simply ignorant. Grow up. The **** the police attitude that seems so widespread is to blame. Maybe if people didn't act like complete fuckin idiots because a cop stopped them for doing stupid **** they wouldn't have problems. Digest that for a while. It's a crazy concept.

There is actually a reasonable explanation why cruisers drive generally faster than the posted limit. If any of you had actually done enforcement it will make sense.

So I get my cruiser, (back in the day) on a fourlane road and I travel at the speed limit. Now EVERY other car also slows to match my speed, (as most are afraid to pass a cruiser), so I have now created a bottle neck. I also can only observe those vehicles immediately in my sight line as I will be approaching vehicles in front to monitor their behaviour as they will be travelling faster than me, nor can I observe vehicles approaching from the rear becasue again as soon as they see the cruiser they slow.

Therefore, cruisers travel above the limit so they may monitor many more drivers and check for obvious infractions, (no seatbelt, distracted driving etc etc etc). It is done and always has been done this way not, because the officer feels entitled, but because it is an effective enforcement practice.

From this I can take 2 things:

- You acknowledge that driving the speed limit in Ontario creates bottlenecks. You therefore must acknowledge that the speed limits are artificially low. If the speed limits reflected the design speed and 85th percentile (the maximum speed in which 85% of drivers are comfortable driving at on specific road in normal conditions and not affected by external sources, including artificially low limits), then driving the limit would only create a bottleneck for 15% of drivers.

- You believe that cops do not need to obey the law in order to enforce it.

Dude, the other solution is to have all cruisers unmarked. I'd rather not lol

No, he acknowledges that a police cruiser traveling at or below the speed limit causes bottlenecks.
You've twisted that to fit your agenda.

Since everyone else is given a small cushion, should a police officer be treated differently?

So you are telling me any other vehicle travelling at or below the speed limit doesn't ? Probably not as noticeable since if somebody is driving at the posted limit they will just pass them in another lane, as opposed to waiting behind them.

Should police be treated any differently? Some would say they should be held to a higher standard. Then again, this is a strange question to ask since they are behaving differently than the rest to begin with.
For instance, if I run a red light I can get a ticket. I've seen cops stop at an empty intersection, check for traffic and barrel through. Where's my red light running cushion ?

If you have the misfortune of having an accident I do hope you scold any ambulance or fire truck that speeds through traffic to get to you or the police vehicles that arrive to secure the scene, and then you must make sure that no laws are broken on the return to the hospital.

Why are people so dumb?

In your case they are responding to an emergency. If there's no emergency, there's no need to act like you are special on the road.

No reference to "below". No misconception.

Unmarked cruisers still bottleneck traffic. All it takes is the next 2 closest drivers to recognize them for what they are. No, the solution is to take the setting of speeds out of the political realm and leave it at the design speeds, confirmed by monitoring the 85th percentile. Just look at any Community Council agenda and you'll see at least one item related to traffic calming or speed reduction. These are mostly a result of Nimbys lobbying their Councillor and have nothing to do with the realities of road safety and efficiency. The problem is that we now have to rely on the good judgement of enforcement officers to balance the judgement of politicians who are more concerned with appeasing a few constituents to keep their vote than looking at the bigger picture. Sometimes it works, but when financial agendas get in the way, it often doesn't. Just look at the Toronto By-law banning the washing of your own car in your own driveway. Thank common sense that no By-law enforcement officers ever bother with that one.

I have a problem with officers who preach one thing and practice another. As I said above, its a shame that a cushion is essential to counteract the arbitrary nature of certain rules. The problem comes with relying on the individual judgement of officers or departments that have their own agenda. What would happen if all speeding fine revenue was directed to capital budgets for road and transit improvements, not the budgets of the agencies charged with enforcing those rules. I suspect that "judgement" on the side of the road would improve dramatically. Speeding will still be enforced more than other infractions because its much easier to prove in court and like most people, cops also like to take the easy win.

Too sensible. Know your audience before you bring this type of thinking into the mix.

I'm making it my personal mission to search through each and every thread to see what SOB started this "definition" thing! If I wanted that I would not have come to GTAM!! When I find you, I WILL HAVE YOU REMOVED!!!

lol, you are killing it in this thread Roomie. :)
Although I would like to see you progress into larger and more radical ways to describe concepts. You can't go from "far out" to "crazy" ... you need to slowly make your way from "far out" up to "manifestation of vibrational energy" without any terms of less extreme connotation following the previous. Other than that, bravo! :P

Subscribed. This is getting interesting. Maybe WalMart fight level? ?

The ambulance would be speeding through traffic legally...
