Maybe looking at trading my 2020 AT for something else, BMW adventure bikes come to mind but I've no experience with the brand.

Basically looking for some first hand info the does, don'ts and any other good or bad information that you can share

Heard nothing but good things about the R1300

If you want to find out what year was the best for BMW bikes, you have to check the VINtage...
I'm guess i should have added more precise info on my request, looking for something more modern 2019 and up models.

You’ve narrowed it down between the 1250 and 1300. I’d just look for the best example within your price range and have at it.

You can go down the rabbit hole of features available for the given model year for best value in the used market. Some owners switch up to get the latest and off load well cared for examples.

My reference of opinion is from my uncle who rides them the last couple of decades. They are getting heavy and he’s not getting younger so, that seems to be the only concern he has. I think any change to a new model and reflecting back to the older version has no regrets.

Personally, I’m an air head fella and I’ve already mentioned the style of adv isn’t my taste so, take my post fro what it is.

Calling the resident BMW ambassador
@Lightcycle
Now that I think about it @Lightcycle doesn't discriminate. He wears the KOL hat for many brands and is always willing to accept more ambassador duties for other brands. As long as they are OK with him speaking the honest truth.

The only way someone would really know if they like a certain bike or if that bike fits them is they would have to ride it,

My question was what is the most reliable yrs?

What features do they have that you actually use?

On my 2020 AT is loaded with features that I’m never gonna use

I have a 2019RT (first year for the 1250 in this sport touring model) purchased new. Clearly for me the best, most fun and reliable bike I have ever owned. It truly fits in the sport category if you want it to and the touring category if that's what you want. I'm 80 years old, riding for 65 years and currently have about 76,000 km on this one. Prior to this were a 2012 R1200GS, 2007 F800GS, 1986 K1000LT and many more different makes. The only "failure" I've had with it is the well known low beam halogen bulb about once every 15-20,000 km (ask Lightcycle about these) . Later models use LEDs and TFT screen. Pre-emptively with this first model, BMW replaced the BMW branded brake calipers with Brembos and the cardan shaft at about 60,000 km. Historically, BMW is the first to develop and adopt new features. This bike has many so you can choose what you want to use. I've never had a failure with any of them, whether I use them or not. If you can do some maintenance yourself, there's a ton of information and help online for routine stuff. I'm now past that point so maintenance is expensive. The last 1250s for this model were 2024, replaced by 1300s in the 2026 model. Like everything else, prices went up.
