I made the mistake of buying a former race bike for cheap, thinking it only needed minor repairs. Just to give you an example of how bad it was, every major engine component was a different shade (two bottom engine cases, cylinders and valve cover), which in retrospect tells me I may have had anywhere between 4-5 engines cobbled together into one. And the engine was pretty much the only thing that ran well on that bike, everything else was literally falling off.
I remember GENTLY taking off from one stop light, and the birdcage broke off. Headlights, instrument cluster, mirrors, blinkers, windshield and front cowl just fell off the bike. I grabbed the windshield with my left hand while braking with the right until I stalled the engine coming to a full stop. Why did it break? Because I did not install the side fairings (and there was probably a crack in the birdcage to begin with). Why didn't I install the side fairings? Because the birdcage was bent from a previous crash and they simply refused to line up.
I was not sorry to see that RZ go, let me tell you. I am still amazed it did not kill me. People are worried about mismatched or punctured tires? Please... You should see some of the bikes I've seen in Romania, or my old RZ for that matter, and they are ridden to the limit. I always chuckle and think "First world problems" whenever those discussions crop on on GTAM.
