What should I do!?

So here is the situation. I am currently 24 years old so my insurance prices are high in comparison to when I turn 25 but I wanted to ride so I decided to purchase a 2010 ninja 250. I've been riding for the past 3 months now and I def want to upgrade next season when I'm 25. I ran into this bike that I want and I don't know whether I should purchase it now and save a little money because the season is coming to an end. If I purchase it now I would need to store it till next season when I'm 25 when I could afford the insurance or should I just wait till next season to purchase my bike?

Any ideas?

I dont need to pay for storage but I don't know whether purchasing it in the winter and saving a couple bucks is worth letting it sit in the garage till next season. Are the savings that much more?

Depends on the bike. If you think it's a good deal, then grab it and you'll be all set for next season. Generally the end of season prices are usually lower, so you might save a few bucks if you don't mind storing it for the winter.

I just don't know if I'm jumping into it too fast. It sounds like a relationship problem the way I'm stating it :P. I just prefer to sell my current bike before I buy a new bike but that will leave me bike-less for the remainder of this season and some of the next season so that def not going to happen.

Sounds like someone wants to upgrade (I assume to 600) after 3 months of riding on 250?

I want to upgrade yes. I initially wanted to start off with a 600 but insurance rates causes me not too due to age, I have a really good/clean driving record. But like Speedemon mentioned, that's not the issue :P

i say do it, just dont leave it in an underground garage with no insurance

Haha yeah def not, I can see by many of the threads that that's not working out too well. My buddy says just hold off till next season now that this season is pretty much over.. :S

expect the price to go up in spring

Roughly what percent increase are we talking 10-15%? Because at the same time, if I wait till next season I can use the cash from my current bike plus the differnece to purchase a new one.

To be honest I didn't see a huge difference in pricing when shopping for my bike. I started looking last winter and ended up purchasing in spring.

I also didn't want to purchase the things I didn't have yet for storage like stands, battery tender, etc.

I guess it depends on the bike you're looking at but 600s are always in high demand and the prices are usually pretty consistent.

If it were me I'd say wait until spring. Save extra money over winter. Sell your bike in spring it will sell in a snap, then make your move.

Sounds like your counting chickens before your eggs have even hatched. Error on the side of safety, you never know what the insurance companies are going to do next season and you don't wanna be out caught with your pants down. Wait till next season, find a bike you like and then get the quote based on current rates for your age/record/area.

Good luck :)

This plus you never know what is going to happen in the next year. Job change, get a ticket or two, meet someone, the list goes on.
There will always be another bike out there and you will have more cash in hand for it if you play your cards right.
The exception is a true rare collectors bike and then you are talking about things like Vincents etc.

You get the best buys when you aren't emotional about the item.

I was in the same boat as you. I was 24 good driving record and was paying around $2300/y for my 09 ninja 250, when I turned $25 It went down to $600/y. Now is a great time to buy though so if you find what your looking for and have the cash just get the bike now.

I don't see that much of a price difference. Yes, maybe the 10% on average but not always. Quite often, it is easier negotiating though as people want to get rid of their bikes before winter and they don't ride them as much any more either. There's less pressure in the spring. I constantly look at new (old) bikes. If I find something that is a good deal and I consider it a better fit for me at the moment - I go for it. No point waiting. Last 4 years I've been through 3 cars and 5 bikes.

to many factors... like everyone says...

my advice...... put in your time, learn to really ride (at least a full year) on your 250... there`s always great deals out there.
