We Know you Ride, But do you Shoot?

I need to know more about indoor clay shooting , that should pack the place . I love the idea .
@Gaoler , the future of shooting is on every clubs talk list right now , a lot of speculation. Wish we had a clear way forward .

I assume by "clay" they mean trap or skeet, but... You'd need a huge building to do that.
There are such facilities, but they are indeed big buildings....
And it's on the second floor. Details would be interesting. My guess for packaging reasons is they launch from near your feet and fly almost straight away from you. That keeps most of the shots low and almost straight downrange. Much easier to build a trap for that than to have millions of pellets hitting the ceiling.

Lota lead and lota air to move it would be tough to keep the DB level down to acceptable levels.
Have you heard a gun? Air handling is the least of your issues with noise. As a first cut, use the existing HVAC that you planned to use and duct supply air behind shooters and return air from target end (substantial filtering or HRV required for return air). I have no idea what the air quality would look like in that case. If iFly can move enough air to go skydiving inside, pushing some combustion products downrange is almost trivial.

There is a big difference between the report of a gun and the constant roar of large air handlers.
With the indoor skydiving the high velocity air is contained in the activity zone it doesn't encompass the entire facility.

It's not.
'Been dealing with this exact issue as a gun club BoD member for many years...
People like to "try" to use the noise angle to try get ranges shut down, but when the studies/reports come back saying noise levels from indoor ranges are "below ambient outdoor levels" they just get mad.

As far as lead goes... Easily mitigated through effective ventilation and cleaning protocols.

I wasn't writing about the outdoor noise levels that pisses off neighbors I'm referring to the ambient levels within the range.
Thinking that with a busy field shooting clay pigeons you would be looking at a air change in the 2 minute range with the CF involved here that's a lot of air movement.
Before you ask yes me and my wife spent a fair bit of time using the local indoor shooting ranges.
When it was busy if i spent much time on the firing line i would feel "off" the next day it took a while for me to connect the two but eventually i wrote it off to poor air quality.
It was enough of a bother that we ended up driving a hour each way to be able to shoot outdoors.

Oh we've had people complain about the noise from the indoor ranges... Lol.
Yes, they complain about the noise from the outdoor ranges too, but... it's akin to those people who move next door to the airport and then complain about the noise from planes taking off and landing...
It's funny... the people who live directly adjacent to the range property have no complaints... It's the people moving into the new houses kilometers away that are complaining... I prefer outdoor shooting too, but I also don't like being cold...

I like clays as it can be very social , skeet has groups up to five and there can be some ribbing and encouragement in the round and fun conversation if it’s not tournament shooting . I like it more than my stall at the pistol range or bench on the rifle range . But there is also the risk of an idiot in the group , so there is that . That’s why we have something for everyone.
