Want to buy a used bike, help

Hi guys,

I saw a bike on Kijiji that I am very interested in.

I don't know what the process of buying a used bike is.....

When I go take a look at the bike, what should I look for and what should I ask?
Any chance anyone is free sometime this coming week to check it out with me? (I'm willing to compensate for this person's time)

Do I need to get insurance, plates, etc before I make the purchase?
How do I get the ownership transferred over?

I'm so lost haha help.

Where is the bike, where are you ? Would help in seeing who might help you if they are near you...

If you do a bit of searching the last questions asked have been answered many times, but to purchase a bike the bare minimum to have and need is the the money, all else can be gotten afterwards..

And you have asked these questions a few times, and most have been answered in all your other posts.

Post details on the bike here as well as the asking price and the members here will sort out if it's properly priced (or not) in short order.

And yes, if you're not motorcycle savvy taking someone who is with you for the pre-purchase inspection would be a wise move.

Cardinal rule - get an insurance quote FIRST. No sense on buying a bike you can't afford to insure after buying it, a trap many have fallen into.

Have people lost the ability to do their own research?

If you have the wherewithal to join and post on a forum, surely you can do some preliminary research into the process. It's all out there without asking a million open-ended questions.

One of the first things you should do is check with your insurance company to see if they'll insure the bike (i.e. call and ask for a quote the make, model and year of the bike you're looking at...) and if you can afford it.

Yeah, what the hell? Internet is not just porn and twitter.

Asking someone to look at the bike I understand though. With that in mind, posting some basic info, as mentioned above, would make the process easier.

I normally try to get the seller to safety. Less trouble for you to try and trailer around to get it done. If seller absolutely doesn't want to safety, then he may be aware of a potential expensive issue. This is beside the normal tires, brakes lights etc. You should be a little weary and really know what you are looking at then.
Also seller should provide UVIP (used information vehicle package) that will list any liens (money owing) on bike and previous owners. I have never personally bought a used bike with either provided, and never had an issue. You have to be sure there are no liens even if you go pick up the UVIP, yourself. When you go and see the bike, take a digital photo of the ownership. I worried when the ownership isn't in the person selling it's name or different address. Find out what a decent price is for the make and model you are looking at, so you don't overpay. There a lots of machines for sale, and no need to jump at the 1st one you look at.

Having a safety is bonus. Having a you uVIP is mandatory in my eyes. I had one guy swear 6 ways to Sunday that it was all clear. Turns out he owed 10grand on a 2009 GSXR 600. Was worth my extra time waiting in line at service Ontario.
