Hi, So have been riding my bike for 3days now.
Today decided to take the Gardiner, it was so much stop and go the bike overheated. By the time I got to work, without realising there was coolant overflow, and steam coming when I looked down. When I bought the bike, the seller told me to wire in a toggle switch to manually turn on the fan. However, I am posting this thread because after I left work, I was watching the temperature veryyyy closely. At one point I shut my bike off at the red lights. Somewhere between when i left work and got around Jameson ave, my headlight, and gauge lights didn't work. I got home replaced the fuse, still didn't turn on the lights. If someone could check it out it'd be much appreciated.

Charge the battery; it may be run down from the starts and slow traffic you experienced.

You also likely need a thermo switch for your rad fan. Or a toggle switch.. Although there may be another electrical issue simmering since you've lost other electrical..

If you can wire the fan directly to the battery to test it and it turns on, then you probably have a bad thermal sending unit. I have a 82 Yamaha Vision that did the same thing. I just wired in a switch directly to the fan, with a relay in between, and whenever I am around 3/4 to the red I turn it on.

I also wired a relayed switch for my head light (HID conversion) because I too had the headlight/dash light go out sometimes. I still can't figure out why. Sometimes it comes on by itself after a few minutes. Battery is new last year and is fine.

Make sure that you have no loose connections. Check your wiring schematic for your bike and make sure everything is tight. also wouldn't hurt to sand any connections back to shiny new and apply some dielectric grease or Vaseline to the connections.
