Usefulness of driver training course

Welcome.

I have recently been overwhelmed with interest in bikes as they make sense for a young age group like mine (19 years).

Previous experience with manual transmission, pocket bikes and ATVs as well as complete disassembly+reassembly of two strokes with full project report on all parts and workings of the engine.

Driver training seems like something everyone has done and i was curious if someone could unfold the benefits (hidden ones too) of doing the driver training?

Cheers,

Phil.

you get to learn on someone elses bike.. you get to experience emergency braking and swerving in a safer environment, and you learn good habits and know which habits to avoid

also.. you can spend all the time in the world studying the theory behind riding a bike well and riding safely, but you need practice to drill it in or else come crunch time you will choke

Experience is where you will learn, my whole group -1 passed the course, I personally would not put half of them back on the road following completion.

I only took it as my insurance insisted on it and I had to send them a scanned copy.

Great replies!

Are there ever discounts on these courses, not just the 20-30 dollar discount forum members here get?

Also, what does M1 exit mean?

and whats the entire process all the way to getting the M?

M1 written, driver training (optional), M1 road, M2, M?

Besides all the usual benefits people mention, you do your M2 test at the school on the sunday fresh off your final lessons that day, and you are graded by the people who taught you all weekend, which to me seems a lot less stressful than doing it at the mto where the pressure is higher and you are being judged by their people. I'd bet at the mto the success/pass rate is probably lower.

@big dill

You have it completely wrong the way you wrote it there in your last reply. It's m1 (written test) m2 (that's the driving test done on a closed course at the mto or the school), then finally you can take your full M road test a minimum of two years after getting your m2. But you can ride on the streets/hiqhways with just an M2 for those 2 years, the only difference between m2/full m is that you are not allowed any alcohol in your blood with an m2. The full m allows the same as a car/G license.

All your questions have been answered on this forum a zillion times, they are all in the stickys in the new riders section. Just go study that.

Thank you for that detailed reply.

I have read through the stickies, and attempted some google searches, but was never clear on many things such as the order and pricing of certificates as well as what M1 exit meant...
