upgrading Seat on Honda Shadow Phantom. Recommendations? Advice?

I find the stock seat very uncomfortable. within 30 mins- 45mins tailbone and butt get numb. then lower back pain and discomfort.

I want to get a seat that i so i can ride the bike comfortably for hours. charity rides etc…

any advice? best prices? good to look into it at the motorcycle show?? go for custom??

Also, will be going to Motorcycle show this weekend. any recommendations on what i should look for?

Padded bicycle shorts or an airhawk seat cushion. If you want to shell out money, consider a Corbin

if those solve the problem then i won't need to shell out $$$$ for new seat.

and I'm hoping ill get to see some seats like corbin and mustang at the show this weekend.
 
I have a Mustang Daytripper on mine. It's not bad for the money but I should have paid twice as much and got the Vintage wide touring couch model w/ drivers backrest.

I've also heard good things about Ultimate Seats. They usually have a great display at the show.
 
The issue is rarely the seat, but rather the seating position and the angle of your back, legs and arms. The feet-forward, high arm position is popular, but not actually comfortable for touring.
Consider different bars.

Another trick is to remove the seat cover and sand off the the skin layer on the polyurethane foam, it makes the saddle softer and can drop your position 1/2".

don't know anything about seats or sanding polyurethane… so not sure if it's quite the task for me :\
but you make a good point CafeRay, as on the SS bike i can ride it for hours and doesnt have much of a seat… so positioning is definitely a huge factor. but with cruiser, i don't want to change handle bars, the phantom has a certain look i was to maintain. ;)
 
Replaced my stock seat on my last bike (Honda Shadow ACE) with a Mustang saddle. Best upgrade I made for that bike . Both appearance and comfort were light years ahead of the original. Definitely worth the investment and really allowed for long distance comfort. Ordered mine online through Mustangs website from California.
 
Everyone seems to have a different opinion when it comes to comfort. When it comes to cruisers, Mustang and Le Pera have a lot of positive testimonials. Corbin is mixed. Especially in Canada.

The Air Hawk pad is a good idea and you can also look at hand and foot controls and see if any adjustments with them can help things out a bit.

Usually, a firm saddle takes some time to break in. But, a firm seat is also good for touring.
