During discussions at which I was not present the KLusteR decided we should explore the red dirt of PEI. Got back yesterday.
In order to avoid the boring slab thru Ontario and Quebec we trailered out. This allowed us to set up different "home bases" for a couple days in various spots. One campground in NB not far from the bridge and then 3 more on PEI. Our first night we took a short ride up to Cape Tormentine to visit the abanndonned ferry terminal.
PEI is NOT a riding mecca. However for 5 guys on KLRs it was great. We rode lots of curving coastal roads, zipped out on numerous roads that deadended at a wharf or a beach. Some times we could ride along trails across the top of the beach. A couple adventurous souls actually got out on the sand and then back without trouble. And of course lots of red dirt. The gravel roads arn't really gravel but red dirt. Instead of the little furrows of gravel to watch for we had ruts and pot holes to keep things interesting.
We stopped in Skinners Pond at the Stompin Tom Centre. Sipped some whisky listening to a STC tribute.
After forgetting to turn off his key we had to boost one bike. Luckily one buddy always carries a few feet of 10/2 for just such events. Weather was excellent up until our last night. The reports said the entire province along with most of two others would be wet all the next day so loaded the bikes and cut out a night early.
However the best riding was in NS. During a beer stop a local mentioned what they call "Nova Scotia's other Cabot Trail". (#209 out to Advocate Harbour). Its twisty coastal road out on the south shore shore and then back on and endless series of sweepers through forests.
Beyond the riding there was camping with four buddies, wrapping up a day with beer and friends around the camp fire just ices the cake of a good day.
Riding home in a trailer the rain washed off lots of the red dirt but maybe there is still some I can clear coat......
