Transporting a bike... on it's side?

Im picking up a 2009 ninja 250r tomorrow but apparently there is a cap on the truck!:angry5:

Is it safe to have the bike lying on it's side while transporting in a back of a truck or even have it tilted to fit under the cab?

Obviously the fairings will be vulnerable but is this safe for the engine, etc...?

Thanks in advance

Can't you just take the cap off and transport your bike the way you're supposed to?
You know... shiny side up?

Took me 10 minutes to get the cap off my F-150... Not a huge job!

Or just wait 'till it's a nice day out and ride it back.
Or rent a truck/trailer.

Apparently it can't be taken off.... no idea why but let's say that's my only option.

Is it safe to have it tilted or lying down as a worst case senario?

*EDIT: found out it's specially sealed and would be a big hassle

if you dont care about fairings and maybe possible Hyro lock sure why not...

worst case scenario... the bike bouces around on it's side (which it most likely will), you crack/break/scratch up the fairings, casings, scratch/bend the rear sets as well as the lever and flood the carbs.

I was trying to help, but it seems like you have no other option.
Just pick up the bike and toss it in the back... I don't give a jack.

I'm sure lots of people would volunteer to ride the bike back to your house for you. Just depends on how trusting you are of others.

but is it safe?

If the truck has a hitch then spend the $20 and rent a trailer or just ride it back.

I seriously don't think anyone is stupid enough do actually do this with anything more then a chinese 50cc. So I would assume this is just a troll attempt

No, I appreciate all the help lol :) I really wasn't sure. I knew I could have protected the fairings by wrapping the bike in towels or something.

Did some more searching, and yea the fluids will leak, etc... ok, hopefully it will fit in this damn cap.

The bike is 43.7" according to Kawi (http://www.kawasaki.ca/model/ninja-250r:1156)

I guess I could deflate the tires to lose an inch or so? :p

Why dont you try laying in the back of the pickup...get your friend to drive around the block a couple times..then come back and ask your question....

but is it safe?

It's perfectly safe if all the fluids are drained out and the next destination is the scrap heap, because they don't care what it looks like.

Don't do it wrong. Take the small amount of extra time and effort and do it right, instead ... and that means with the bike upright and tied down and protected from banging around against everything.

Thanks for the quick replies everyone. I'll do it the right way

Great vid too. Not sure what he did exactly with the hockey stick?

He used the stick to prop the cap up while loading. Knowing that yours is sealed, you may have to (with help) roll the bike in on an angle to clear the back of the cap.

This being said, the video was for transporting a bike from Tennessee to Ontario. In your case, another truck or a trailer would be my suggestion as well.
