Hey everyone
I am riding with my wife in July and we don't want to drone down there on the interstate highway,
But nicer roads and little towns...taking our time.
Any suggested routes and advice are greatly appreciated
Thanks alot

Just follow the I-17 it is an amazing ride, we rode it almost to Boston last year and really enjoyed it, 2 lanes through hills and valley's

You can also get on the Taconic State Parkway - It's a freeway, but no trucks are allowed and it takes you right into NYC. Saves a lot of time.

Make sure to get ENOUGH sleep before you head out!

Finger lakes are nice.

PS, have you ridden or driven in NYC before? It's a fun experience if you're prepared for it.

Manhattan is the ultimate test of your urban riding skills.

Pedestrians just walk out in front of you, traffic galore, construction, taxis by the hundreds cutting in and out of lanes, terrible road conditions.

Take the worst of downtown Toronto and multiply it tenfold.

We rode through Times Square, then to the Carnegie Deli for a pastrami sandwich, then got the F$$# outta there. 9 hours total riding (we were at Americade in Lake George)for 45 minutes in NYC!

I think that's the route I took when I drove down there and it was quite awesome (wish I was on a bike). If it's the same one, it's on like a 1-2 lane road (each way) right next to the edge of the mountain, lots of turns. I do recall there weren't many gas stations in that area though.

Farm land and rolling hills through 20A.
Falls and Canyons in Letchworth Statepark
97 will have the Bird's nest lookout
Harriman State Park to Bear Mt lookout and Bear Mt bridge.

Or just plot your GPS and use Shortest Route VS. Fastest Route.

Been all over NY State numerous times on my Wings and I can tell you without a doubt that there are no bad roads in the whole State.Their backroads are 10 times better than our best roads and usually lots to look at,so depending on time cover as much of it as you can.

Thanks for all your tips and advice We are going to take our time and stay overnight on the way .We will leave the bike at a hotel outside Manhattan and take transit in from...New Jersey??? or somewhere you guys recommend to stay.

I stayed in Jersey City once, don't think I would do it again. Maybe a twenty minute train ride into NYC from where I stayed. Still a pain if you want to go to and from the hotel and NYC multiple times during the day. Much preferred staying right in Manhattan. Using Priceline/Hotwire shouldn't be that much more expensive either. I think I paid around $140 a night for an old and bland Hilton in Jersey City, maybe $240 a night for an awesome 4* hotel in NYC steps from Times Square. Both were via Priceline.

Hey Murphy.. I have the route for you!!

I did this trip a few years ago with my YZF-600R and this kind member on another forum plotted the perfect route with no traffic, tolls and excellent scenery with beautiful twisties!

It only took me 7 hours (I averaged about 80mph) and gassed up three times.

This is the Google map route, I plotted this route into my GPS and found gas stations at 250km marks from my Garmin GPS software!

I recommend Rockland or Woodbury(outlet mall) Area- North West of Manhattan or up in Whiteplains North of Manhattan. Its accessible to the city by bus and train. I hate driving through the city, its just not worth it IMO. I stayed in those areas with my bikes and there is also a lot of good riding roads up there.

I've stayed on the Jersey side of the Hudson River at (I think) Comfort Suites. There's a bunch of hotels on that side of the river, way cheaper than in NYC (plus free parking), and they run a $5.00 shuttle bus from those hotels into Manhattan.

I've also stayed in Manhattan; it's a fortune and the parking is even more of a fortune!

Remember the parking garage in Ferris Bueller's Day off?

well I bit the the bullet and we are staying a couple of nights in Manhattan. I really appreciate all your tips and advice . Really excited for this trip...CAA is also making me a trip tick...seeing as we are members...Going to go and get their maps and coupons at the store in East Mall
