Hey everyone,

Towards the end of may (pending passport renwal) I will be riding on 636 to Cali, staying there for a few weeks then to Van for a few days before heading back to Toronto.

I've got wheelieboy's thread open and am using that as a reference for planning the way to Cali. If there is any interest I'll post pics and stories as they happen.

Mostly wanted to see if anyone had interest in tagging along for some of the ride (or all of it) or had any suggestions for places to go along the way.

Depends on when you are leaving I can tag along one way or the other way.

Thanks for the suggestion wheelieboy. I've been reading your thread but feel almost likes its ruining the surprises lol.

Djez I'm thinking sometime during the week of the 20th. Couch surfing and camping most of the way.

awesome, thanks for the blog Moggs, It will give me some inspiration over the next few days! That's a wild route that you took!

How do you guys not get "butt hurt" on anything over a couple of hours. I ride a 250 ninja and I'm sore as **** as soon as I hit that 2 hour mark! I can't sit comfortably on the seat anymore at all.

Its a state of mind but mostly its just how you fit your bike.
Wheelieboy can do it on a cbr but i can't.
However there are ways to make your bike fit you, like custom seat, adjustable pegs and handlebar adjustment.
Also a taller windscreen help.

I also generally get sore after a few hours but as djez mentioned it just becomes a state of mind, a painful state of mind. Also, not having a backpack helps.

I'm riding from Toronto to Chicago and then to LA via Route66 on June 14th. Will make stops for site seeing in NV, AZ etc. From LA, down to San Diego, back in to Texas and to New Orleans. From New Orleans, I will head back to Toronto, while my uncle will further be riding to Miami. My trip is 3 weeks and his is 4.

I have a 2012 Triumph Thunderbird Storm under unlimited warranty for another year so I thought might as well make the most of it. Uncle's riding his HD (some 1600cc model that I am not too sure of as I am not a fan of HDs) which has seen entire Europe including former Soviet Union, China, Pakistan and India.

The Rt 66 stuff on my trip was touristy as hell and the roads were boring. They force you through so many turns as you go through the towns so you stop and spend money there. It would be ok if the road just ran down the main strips and then out of the town but they don't.

I was going to go all the way up the PCH on my trip to BC but we didn't have enough time and headed back at San Francisco. Make sure you visit HWY 2 just north of Pasadena when you get to LA. Visit Newcombs ranch for lunch on the weekend and you will see a ton of bikers.

+1 State of mind.

I did 12 hour days on my CBR on my trip and I was fine.

Now I dread the 1 hour highway stint to get to twisty roads.

+1

Have been long distance touring for decades. Never been bored on a road trip. Most important how bike fits, a good fitting helmet, ear plugs, a custom seat (Sargent etc.) and listen to your body! Take water/stretch breaks often and on long trips schedule days off the bike. The rest comes with experience.
