Top case without hinges

Not sure where to post this exactly but anyone using givi kappa etc top cases that doesn't have hinges to hold the cover up. Any cheats to keep it opened? It's just got 2 rubbery cable and even on flat surfaces the lid will drop on me as my bike and top plate is naturally very parallel to the ground (unlike the old sports bike where the rear tilted forward)
 
I have a Maxia 52l with the same too short ties and an annoying lid that would not stay open. I just removed the ties and replaced with a black round (vs. flat) shoelace. It took a few minutes to fine tune the length, but now no more slamming lid.
