Not sure how this will hold up in court if you are going to fight the speeding ticket? With all these unmarked cars it is the chance you take when passing regular cars. Halton I've seen a Red Caravan pull over a car with flashing lights.

http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/briti.../08/23/bc-motorcycle-speeding-sea-to-sky.html

"Since all six motorcycles were travelling within two to three metres of each other, we stopped the entire group," RCMP Cpl. Robert McDonald said.
"Each rider received an excessive speed violation ticket under the Motor Vehicle Act, and in accordance with that act, each motorcycle was automatically seized for a seven-day impound."

They were doing double the speed limit? Not sure what the problem you have is. Don't speed and don't worry, it is really that simple.

As to why they all pulled over I am curious about. The rule in any group I've been in, is if someone is getting pulled over, the rest keep going and meet up down the road.

"Since all six motorcycles were travelling within two to three metres of each other,

one hopes that was an exaggeration of distance......
that's way too close at those speeds on that highway.

"Yesterday, RCMP released a video of a speeding motorcyclist who was so preoccupied with his speedometer, he slammed into a young, black bear crossing Highway 7 in the Fraser Valley."

Ouch. While he may have not been paying enough attention, that black bear was hiding in the bushes waiting to play linebacker!

wow... go speed limit guys. On straightways...on corners its ^$%$% time!

It doesn't matter if your speeding or not, cops have come up with a new loophole, give every biker they pull over "EXCESSIVE SPEED", charge, this way they never have to prove HOW FAST YOU WERE ACTUALLY GOING, and still get to impound your bike.

If you go to court these days, every other driver, rider, has the H.T.A 172 charge, from teenagers driving their parents car, to old Chinese people who can't even speak English, to young adults, very rarely will you ever see if at all a rider there who actually deserved the 172, because those guys run, the guys who actually stop or were pulled over allegedly go through all the trouble.

The cops, use the 172 charge in different ways for different scenarios, now, they have learned to abuse the 172 now, very well, they have leanred 172 is the mother of all charges that you could not have like before the careless charge was what the cop gave if he wasn't sure or had no proof, 172 is what covers that now for everyone and everything.

Three of my friends cruising down 400 last week at 120kmh (yes speeding above 100kmh that is exactly the loophole they use now), all got STREET RACING 172 H.T.A,( how? easy three bikes going above 100kmh side by side each other = racing each other breaking the speed limit with excessive speed), cops now don't bother pulling you over to give you a stupid speeding ticket, if your on a bike and a cop after you, he wants your bike towed period! my buddy parked in a plaza, comes out of a restaurant, puts key in his bike, and gets thrown with "EXCESSIVE SPEED", H.T.A 172, because cop who saw him allegedly saw him from two traffic lights away rip it, earlier that night....you all get the point, they don't give a flying F- about anyone's safety or children or any of that scam, they lecture everyone about.

That is why i don't ride much anymore, specially beginning of summer April/May, and end of summer Aug/Sep, that is the worst time to get caught, because these are the opening and closing seasons for them to make as many tickets as possible. If you guys don't believe me, ask around in your bike community and see how many people got their bikes towed this past month.

two of my friends i ride with are COPS!!! and they tell me all the inside crap all the time, the only difference is they themselves are bikers too, and speed fanatics, so when their on duty they either warn the person to chill out and be careful, or don't bother with bikers at all, because they know real crime is elsewhere. They tell me out of 10 cops 8 cops are there for the power, paycheck, easy life and nailing as many tickets to move up in rank, the 2 remaining are the actual good cops there to make a difference in the community. The type that let you off with a warning first always, (giving you a fair chance to prove you can listen and comply and understand the situation).

Another thing they told me, any cop after giving you the ticket tells you, i know how you feel but you can't be doing that trust me i know im a rider too blah blah... is a LIAR, if they were riders themselves they would NOT give you a ticket, only a warning, even if they caught you 50 over or doing a wheelie they would understand as long as you didn't hurt anyone or a complaint was made about you...,

i believe them because i personally know another Toronto cop who rides a sick black sportsbike and he caught me back in my uni days doing a wheelie down my university and he just gave me a thumbs up after giving me the you naughty boy signal with a smile. He later met me at my uni and showed me his beast of a sexy bike, and we shared some cool stories.lol

So yes there are chill cops out there, but most of them who don't ride are going to rape you.

people don't get it, for every person that runs on the bike, because of things like this, them getting screwed by dick cops all the time, then the next rider that stops gets his assss gets blown up by that same cop that pulls another biker over, and the cycle continues.

The problem now is soooo many people run, that the few that stop get their assses tore up. If enough cases at court are dropped due to lawyers successfully fighting this hta 172 and the government sees how cops are abusing this power, initially one day 172 will become banned, i just hope the people who do get violated by the 172 go to court and get a lawyer, the more 172s get thrown from court the more it will back fire on them, because right now their trying to show how good the 172 is, everyone is breaking the 172 law....

The cops i know say, they do their best to avoid 172 because it was initially designed to get BAD drivers off the road for a week and give them a chance to improve their driving habits, instead too many cops now use it as a means to make money for the system, and to be in a position to get promoted (bigger tickets, charges and offences, looks beautiful on a cops work record, it equals this cop is good at nailing people breaking the law, i.e a good leader who can catch bad people and smart cop who can be efficient with his work.

Going off topic but, i see why people run, heck i know off duty cops, airforce-military guys who run also.

You mean real crimes like this
[h=1]Jane Finch shooting leaves two popular teens dead[/h] [h=2]Latest murders leave neighbourhood in shock. There have been five shootings, four of them fatal, in the past six months.[/h]

Yes "real cops", don't want anything to do with Traffic Unit, both my friends are narcotics, drugs, weapons squad, they can pull over bikes for wheelies, speeding etc anything, but they don't, because they do wheelies them selves lol, they actually hate traffic unit cops, because they make rest of the cops look bad, traffic unit cops are basically glorified parking ticket officers with guns i.e cops patroling to give out tickets all day, no real investigative work.lol

This forum used to be full of bootlickers... obviously people are aware of the real face of "law enforcement" as it exists today.

I'll never look at cops the same way. One tried to nail me today for a "rolling stop" and only let me off with a "warning" once I told him the camera on my bike was filming and I would show him the footage if he wanted to see for himself.

It wasn't actually filming but he didn't call my bluff, I guess cops really do have a "quota" that they have to hit because I came to a complete stop (both feet on the floor) because I saw the idiot cop sitting in the driveway in front of me.

The one thing that ****** me off more than anything was his condescending attitude. He made me sit there, with his cherries flashing the entire time for like 30 minutes while he checked my (clean) records. It made me feel like a thug, watching all the cars look at me while I'm sitting there with his lights beaming. Then he has the audacity to say some bull**** like "you're lucky I'm in a good mood today" and "you better be careful next time kiddo.. just because you're on a motorcycle doesn't mean we can't get you" all I wanted to do was tell that pig to shut the **** up and it took every ounce of patience I had to bite my tongue.

I hate to generalize, but I have very rarely heard stories of good encounters with cops. The way I see it, the majority (if not all) of them, are nothing but overpaid power tripping losers. I respect the law but not the way it's enforced by the cops here.

Cops are given way too much power. If you want to become sick just watch some police brutality videos on YouTube. I agree with 2Wet that 2 cops out of 10 are awesome. However, the majority are on power trips because our system sucks.

Honestly you could of called him a pig and an ******* and there is nothing he can do about it.

Yea a lot of cops can be *****, but you also need to understand what they go through. They deal with the scum of society for the most part 12 hours a shift. Generally every person they pull over has a ******** excuse to what they were doing, and there comes a time as a human being you become cold, hard, and you just don't care as much considering people have lied to your face daily. I believe as a police officer if you are treated with respect, you should get it back. Just hard to say what is going in said officers life, in his day; maybe he has had really bad experience dealing with riders before etc.

Lol, in the article with the guy crashing into the bear. "He accelerated from 0-140 in less than 20 seconds". WHOAH?!?! Less than 20 seconds? Damn! That's about as long as a bus would take.
