This Is What Happens When You Hit Black Ice On A Huge Tourer Bike

I saw that video before, maybe a repost from March.. the original video actually shows the old man getting help to put the bike back up... I don't think he applied brakes, if I remember well I think his back tire just kept going right...

Maybe he should have deviced something to avoid that from happening on his huge touring bike. Good thing you will never have to worry about that on your kawi.

He's a noob like you, I would have braked hard and stopped about 6-ft away from the ice patch, I could see that thing from 100-ft away and need only 30-ft to stop.

So OK, say, you have stopped in the middle of the road in front of that big ice patch. You cannot go left or right. Where do you go from there? U-turn and go home?

Yeah, that would be a safer and cheaper option.

100 ft less 30 ft = 6 ft. Peggy logic at its best on this thread as well. Peggy for the win.

That's not black ice, it's ice ice. It's something to watch for, when the temps first start to turn. You can get melt-off that runs into the road, which then refreezes in the shadows that are a few degrees cooler.

I never said I was going to stop right on the dot and of course I would have rolled to stop 6-ft away to inspect if the patch is ice or water.

you guys need to see the full video and see where he was riding and the conditions of the road, otherwise he would have been stopping every 2 turns!

You're seriously throwing stones, the guy who's admitted to riding in the snow, and causing a tractor trailer to jackknife behind him to avoid killing you? http://www.gtamotorcycle.com/vbforu...-A-Motorycle&p=1804771&viewfull=1#post1804771

You don't even know how to go around a corner on an onramp safely... http://www.gtamotorcycle.com/vbforu...Killed-Myself-Today-On-11th-Highway-(Orillia)

Settle down, axle-sticks.

Peggy, you also said you saw it from 100 feet away. I'm sure you would agree that the road appears to be what we would commonly encounter as an 80 kph area. If you are doing 80 kph you are travelling at ~72 feet per second. Assuming that you have the magical ability of determining the difference between ice and a shadow you wouldn't have had the time to stop. I would challenge that you couldn't stop on time at a speed of 50 kph. My point is (and I was hoping I wouldn't have to spell it out for you but obviously my logic is wrong) you could try less judgement and more rational thinking.

Don't believe my math, have at it yourself here. http://www.liikenneturva.fi/www/fi/animaatiot/mp_kaikkikieliversiot/StoppingDistanceMotorcycle.swf

Honestly, your inability to think objectively or rationally leads to the fantastic slew of responses that makes your threads worth reading. Please post more.

Says the guy who admits to riding wrecklessly and not knowing how to safely adjust speed/angle to enter an onramp to a highway, resulting in a huge crash in which he nearly dies... and who previously admits to causing a tractor trailer to jack-knife on the highway.. :? lol
