Thinking about downsizing....anyone done it?

I love small bikes myself... 2nd bike on my list to finish is a CR250 motor in a striped down CB125R frame.
It helps to stick with a 2 stroke but I bet a litre bike would have a hard time keeping up with a 60 hp bike that weighs only 200 lbs. (around town)

Now we're talking! Saw a build thread where guy put 450MX 4 stroke into CB200 vintage bike. Looked pretty hairy! Good luck with your build.

Yup, the most fun under a ton is a small bike! With the power of a modern dirt bike into a light frame makes for a good combo.
A buddy of mine has a 150lb. 1970 100cc Kawi 2 stroke that is still a work in progress but currently has it going 70mph in it's current state of tune. He's hoping in the end he'll get about 85 mph out of it.
Insurance will never be cheaper than on a small bike like this and very difficult to keep up with in the twisties. After taking it to Deals gap, he named it the Ego Slayer! Haha

Yes, it's to bad the OEMs can't build something like this for under 12grand.

I'm going smaller each bike now.

I'm currently on a 650 and next will be a 250 unless there's something slightly bigger by then.

If you figure out how to ride, you can take the 250 anywhere, except maybe the superslab,
which is better to have a car on anyways.

Although, a friend took a 250 across the country, so she must have been on some highways.

Many of the bigger bikes can't take a load either, so there's no loss there,
and the little bikes are a lot more fun to ride! :)

you are Fing joking right?? right!Mall to mall? Timmies to timmies? on a 300?That's what SS are for! the 300 is a workhorse dude!Like the blue collar workers busting their balls to earn a livingSS= white collar dudes who just speculate on $ hit!I would have no problems taking a 300 to PA
hmm.. initially was joking.. but thinking about it.. Ive never seen a SS or smaller 250cc type sports bikes outside the core of the GTA. Or even Port Parry. I dont do Forks of the Credit, so cant comment on that. I only see crusiers and sport tourers/adventure tourers outside of the city areas. Yeah, get down south if you can. Much nicer roads, friendlier drivers, less traffic and friendlier bikers..

With this trend in the 250-300cc category, theres a new market being created for new riders. Part of this has been the Insurnance Scam of Ontario too.In NZ we had it that under 250cc class created due to licencing requirements for the first 18-24mths. You had restrictions on bike/passengers until you got the "full" licence. I also see "naked" bikes are becoming popular in Nth America along with supermoto style bikes.

Passing trucks at 150 km/h on a 125CC bike?? Are you being dragged by another vehicle? :lmao:

All joking aside... How long does it take to go from 110-150?

Passing trucks with a **** load of tail wind and on a downhill. I'm guessing he hit 150km/h (indicated) on a cbr125 with perfect conditions.

I can see how the cbr125 doesn't have enough power on the highway in emergency situations, but saying a ninja/cbr 250/300 doesn't have enough power is like saying you should get rid of all entry level cars on the road because they don't have enough power on the highway.

The ninja 300 is a great bike btw :P More than enough power for the street and power to pass on the highway. It can also easily get up to speed with a 2up.

Another factor for downsizing is the fact that the cost of living is skyrocketing in the GTA. Insurance is a total rip off. When you are on the major motorcycle forums with the majority of membership from the US. I think to myself, they have it so good.

pics of members bikes thread, posts 4195 +6 jive quite nicely with your comments above, knee down and on a rock ledge in a conservation area LOLs
I'm not complaining about my bike... I chose/choose to do those things.. My bike has nothing to do with it.. I'm sure YOU'VE never bent a rule in your life. Difference is we all make choices but to blame a bike for human behaviour is ridiculous.. Yeah I've gone off road... Did I wreck trails leave garbage or act like an ******* to innocent hikers no. I went for the freedom and the view and was respectful. Not sure how your posts relates to mine either way

The bike doesn't get you in trouble .. You do.. If you can't resist temptation don't ride a bike.. That's like saying Guns kill people.. Comfort in long rides is one thing but to downsize to keep your licence is stupid and you shouldn't ride a bike IMO

Dry your eyes mate, didn't you see the LOLs?

Hey guys,

I'm thinking about selling my FZ6 and getting a ninja300 for the street. Riding a 600cc bike is no fun when 2nd gear is really all you need for highway riding...it's boring and makes me want to go much faster. Then all I'm thinking about is getting pulled over once and having my entire life changed with a 200km/h speeding ticket.

Any downsides to a ninja 300? I could rev the crap out of it all day and still have a blast, I believe it's heavy enough for hwy and 2up is still ok, and i would save money on insurance. I only use my bike for joy rides on the weekends, a few hrs per day.

Thoughts?

Up size to a bigger sprocket on your rear wheel let say to 60 and it's not gonna go more them 130 km/h
Haha

OP- it all comes down to cock size. Thankfully I have a huge penis and could withstand the public shaming of going back to a 250cc from other 650cc bikes I've owned in the past. If you have a small penis, whatever you do...don't downsize! No chick will ever have sex with you...more than once...again.

I don't understand why live in the gta. If your making $65k year you're pretty much broke from the increased living costs. Move out of the city and that same wage (or slightly less) you'd be very well off.

I remember when a tenant of my parents moved from Markham to Sarnia (he was a boilermaker) he couldn't believe how lucky they were to find cheap rent. Imo my parents were asking a lot for their 1 bedroom. ($600 util included btw).

I find it that when I was on the Ninja 250, I tried to ride much more technical otherwise I'd be too slow. Now on the FZ6, who cares about riding technical lol just use the throttle. And FZ6 is so much harder to approach to its limits, whereas I could use all of the tire on the Ninja 250 through the twisties without hesitation. After a whole Cali trip and 1942817 corners, I still have chicken strips on the FZ6 :(

So, if you gave me a 250/300 over FZ6 to go to PA, I think I'd take it.

How does someone take 1942817 corners and still have chicken strips..? Give it to me for 10 mins, in a parking lot.. I'll eat them for you.

I find that a little hard to believe -- I'm in 3 different riding groups, all of which plan at least 1 ride most weekends which is definitely not in the city (eg. Gravenhurst, Bobcaygeon, Haliburton, Huntsville, etc). Although there might be a few cruiser owners in the groups, 99% own SS, sports, sports touring, or naked.

He probably passes them when the ss are filling up :p.
