The Top 10 Absolute Worst Places to Drive in the World

Gee... maybe voting in a high school dropout alcoholic crack addict for Mayor wasn't a good idea....

You really believe Ford is responsible for the gridlock? Try David Miller or Adam Vaughn. You anti-Fordists CRACK me up!

Ford has been on city council for 20 years, and his mantra has been no spending, do nothing, no spending, do nothing.

So, Toronto now pays below national average in taxes, and we have a gridlocked city that hasn't had proper infrastructure update in 30 years, while the population has increased 400%.

Ford was in charge when they decided that closing the Gardner and the Lakeshore at the same time was an awesome idea. But in his defense, he was likely in a drunken stupor. This will cost the city businesses tens of millions in lost revenue.

Of course, we can't blame him for anything recently, given that they took away all the sharp tools from him and he was in rehab.

Toronto is screwed. No one wants to pay for the infrastructure because people are so over-leveraged on their overpriced house, a tax hike would sink them. There may be a solution, but its not going come from a lifelong under-acheiver who has failed at everything he has ever done since he was a kid.

I grew up in Etobicoke and knew the Fords, voters have no idea how bad it is and when the next shoes will drop.

Whomever wrote that article, has a very narrow view of what the "World" is. I have personally driven in 10 worse cities than Toronto

Toronto is frustrating for North-American standards with the left lane slow drivers and our multicultural population bringing their driving habits over here, but it is nowhere near top 100 worse cities to drive in

That is total nonsense, they talk about "Speeding tractor trailer drivers". Tractor trailers cant speed, they all have limiters that keep them at 105kmh and below for the last 5 years.

I don't see anything about tractor trailer drivers?

Toronto, Canada
Toronto has many things to offer its visitors, but an exciting and fun driving experience is not one of them. The Toronto area is home to a portion of one of the largest and most congested highways known as highway 401. This massive roadway stretches 18 lanes across at its widest and it can be a nightmare to navigate for those who don't know their way around. As if it needs mentioning, this highway at the busiest time of day is anything but a vacation. To top it all off, passing on the right is legal on the highways, contrary to driving laws in many other cities, so knowing where you're entering and exiting well in advance is essential.
Vancouver was much better when I was there for a week (driving daily). Seoul didn't seem too bad but I was just a passenger. Definitely more congested than here. It was quite congested and people will pull crazy **** on the road. They just put on their 4 ways and start honking and everyone stops and waits for the idiot to do his idiot thing and then they progress as normal. Unfortunately I've seen a few of them try the same thing here and it doesn't go so well.

Downtown Krakow, Poland, was fine except if you don't know what you're doing you can end up in an area that only cabs and busses are supposed to be in. The cops seem pretty understanding towards tourists when that happens, though.

Anywhere I've been in the US is way better than here.

That's a load of crap IMHO. In most European countries trucks have a lower speed limit then cars.
Same goes for Michigan:

A lot of states used to have split limits and got rid of them when they realized how dangerous they were, Ohio for example.

Btw, I am NOT an advocate for speed limiters, I think they are dangerous and lazy enforcement of speed limits.

The downtown core is easily the worst in North America in terms of constant traffic. Worse than LA, way worse than NYC. There is basically no non-rush-hour except for Sat-Sun *early* mornings.

If you work and live downtown, it's a fine line between riding your bike, and walking your bike.

They obviously have had their limiters removed, and if they get caught would suffer extremely heavy fines. (Its not a perfect world, obviously)

I get defensive when truckers get constant bad press because I used to drive a truck for a living and I know what a gruelling job it is, I also know that truckers are statistically the safest drivers on the road.

Of course when a car causes an accident involving a truck, the trucker gets blamed, just like us hooligans on two wheels constantly get blamed.

yeah.... ok.... truck drivers may be good drivers, but too many drive like complete arseholes... and I come from a family full of truck drivers. both my parents drove(retired), my uncle drove(retired), my brother in law drives.

I have had many truck drivers run into my lane to turn, i get they are wide, but they cant force me off the road. I have been tailgated, had trucks veer into my lane to force me to move if they want to pass a car as i am passing them...

let me give you a quote from my uncle that I mentioned above "I don't care about the cars, they are in my way, i am out there making a living". Well let me point out those that trucks share the road with, some are out making a living too, or coming home to their families after working for the day making a living, or maybe going to work to make a living to support their families.

My uncle is a pretty good guy, but when he spewed thsi carp he became one of the dick truckers.

sorry, end of my rant\ ...

My absolute biggest pet peeve (done by ALL taxi drivers)....

Driving along smoothly on the highway.... no traffic in sight.. taps brake every 5 seconds. For no effing reason! Makes me so mad I feel like george costanza.

Not sure about that, up to a couple of years ago, I used to have a condo in Front and Spadina and I work at Yonge and Eglinton, took me 25 min to get home at 5pm

It once took me 45 minutes to "ride" from King/Bathurst to Fort York/Spadina. It's about a kilometre on foot. The CityPlace enclave is currently a war zone.

Sorry your Uncle is a dick? :P

You are right though, there are a lot of moron truck drivers, just like there are a lot of moron motorcycle riders, just like there are a lot of morons in every walk of life. The point is generalizing all truck drivers to be the same pisses me off, when I drove I happened to be very courteous and safe as a driver, logged over a million miles with not a single accident. C'est la vie.

I love how EVERYTHING turns to ford here.

Nothing about the ??? Billions the liberals wasted. Nothing about the tax on tax for gas, nothing about the proposed 10c increase on gas. Nothing about the millions that counsel has wasted on the city hall reno. Nothing about the 2mil reno for TCH prez office reno, nothing about the free passes and parking EVERYWHERE in the city for counslers (who make more then most of us) nothing about how the attendance record for most counslers is what 60%

Shall I go on.

Ford is only 1 vote. Just one. Most everything still gets passed in counsel. Start looking to your counslers.

And the roads were despicable BEFORE ford.

Don't blame city councillors, blame voters.

To fix roads, you need money, which means taxes. If they chose to fix and expand the roads, they would have to raise taxes and get booted out of office by angry middle-aged men who have had their entire lives subsidized by government debt and think stuff happens with fairy dust. We're tapped out supporting the baby boomers (those people who bought houses for $12,000 and now get $1M). Then we have another corruption problem with the fact that three companies control all the road construction in Ontario.

Despite Blob Ford's rhetoric on spending, he managed to hire two staffers on city money to coach his football team, and two others to clean his house. The mess surrounding his activities and inactivities has resulted in Hamilton being the most expanding city in Ontario, as business, offices and jobs get out of a mismanaged, gridlocked city.

The truck problem is so fixable. There is no reason to truck dangerous goods across the GTA when the rail systems are just rusting away. It's just slightly cheaper to truck.

They should not allow cargo across the GTA by truck -move it to trains.

When I was at U of T, after exams, people would threaten to end it all by riding a bike up Spadina from Front street, a dangerous feat to this day.

^I have no rebuttal as I agree. Except you have to look at how the councillor you voted in voted as well.

Iirc wasnt the extra tax on gas supposed to fix roads? Why didnt that happen.

Stuff eventually has to be trucked into and out of the city. Although for dangerous goods just passing through train is better.

Good post.
Don't get me started on Baby Boomers.
