A number of years ago I participated in The Personal's Ajusto program. I attached a device to my data port, it communicated back driving habits and resulted in a 21% discount on my auto insurance premium. This program was discontinued years ago and I returned the 2 devices I had. At that time The Personal told my the discount would continue indefinitely.
I guess "indefinitely" has a different meaning to me vs. The Personal. Late September I get a letter telling me that I have several choices for my January renewal.........
1. Download the new Ajusto app to my smartphone and maintain my existing 21% discount. At the end of a 6 month period my driving habits would be reviewed and discount adjusted. Could have up to a 25% discount (4% more than I have now) up to a surcharge of 20%.
Things to be measured would include..................
In discussion with them the app is to be used by the principle driver. Every trip gets a score. You are able to delete several trips per month. You can tell the app that you are a passenger vs. being the driver. I would be expected to use the app when driving my SUV only, not my Tracer.
FAQ here Ajusto FAQ
==============================================================
Key question I have here would be about speed being measured.
From their FAQ.............
"Speed
Respecting the speed limit decreases the risk of a collision and helps improve road safety. That being said, the parameters of the app have been set to allow a small margin over the legal speed limit (between 10 and 15 km/h depending on the limit), without compromising the safety values we want to promote. To maximize your score, drive at a safe speed."
So............... as we all know virtually no one follows the speed limit anywhere, including around town and on the highway.
Question I have is directed at current Ajusto app users. What has your actual experience been with the app, the speed limit, your speed and the impact on your score and premium.
There is a class action lawsuit in regards to the Ajusto program being removed after promising clients "as being “locked in for as long as you have car insurance with us!”
