The elusive, never expiring M2

Hey All,

I have a confession to make. I got my motorcycle license right in the infancy of graduated licensing. Wrote my M1, passed, did the course at Conestoga College, passed, got my M2 once I was eligible by time (I believe it was 60 days back then). At any rate, that was 17 years ago. I've never received notice of expiry, have changed addresses, renewed my license several times, changed bikes, but my M2 has never expired. My insurance company has never said a word either. I have literally ridden full time for the majority of seasons since I got my M2 and never had one issue.

Has this ever happened to anyone else?

I am going to take my M2 exit this summer anyways, I feel like it's eventually going to catch up to me. As mentioned, I've been riding for 17 years, am very confident in my abilities, not too worried about the test, just never forced to do anything about it. Just wondered if anyone else experienced this loophole.

I know a person who did the M1 exit course, went and paid for their M2, license showed up in the mail as GM. They did have a G already. They are wondering how long until ministry figures it out if ever.

... it's not me btw.

That's awesome. I say ride it out and see how long it goes for. What's the worst that can happen? You some day are forced to take the test. At best, you keep your M2 for life lol

Your M2 is expired. It's your responsibility to make sure it's valid. You get to start all over again.

The thing is, I have a valid GM2 license, with a valid expiry. It's been run by the ministry, by the cops, etc multiple times and not a single one has had an issue with it.

They will catch it when you go for your M. I was in same boat, had my M2 show up on my license for 15 years. I asked a cop about it, and MTO. Was informed by both that it was my responsibility to ensure my license was valid. Just wrote my M1 again last month.

Really, so I assume they wouldn't let you take your M then when they caught on? As I have said, the ministry and the cops have run the license plenty of times in the last 17 years without saying a word.

Yup. Wouldn't let me do my M. I've had mine run as well, even got a ticket on it. I'd be more worried about what would go down if you were involved in an assdent without a valid license.

If that's the case then you should just keep your M2 forever since it hasn't given you problems hahaha

I'm actually glad to know someone else has had the same thing happen, I just can't believe the ministry would take no responsibility considering they keep validating / renewing the license. Hell, my G2 expired when I was younger and stupider and they snatched that, but still let me keep my M2!

yea i would, book the M test just incase and get it over with. what if there's been an accident and either the MTO or the insurance company looks into it, and was able to deny you coverage since you were operating a motorcyle on public roads with an expired license.
