I made a post mid august about breaking my arm.. Figured I'd be out much longer than 17 days! Went out last night, was feeling awesome so I drove to work (way better than TTC from scarborough...). I did take my cast off, as it was super excessive, but as long as I don't need to but my palm facing upwards (no waves lol) than i'm good to go!

Staying away from "spirited corners" for a bit, but getting back into it is awesome in itself! Hope to see some people around!

How bad was this break dude??The doc says 6 weeks for a reason... Your bone might be fused together but it hasn't hardened enough.I knOw you want to ride, but you gotta look after yourself. Trust me, I race competitive and had to take some time off this summer due to a partial stressfracture in my foot. Lost points but I'm back 100%

Ya man i would take it easy. I have broken my collarbone 4 times playing hockey (twice each side) and the only reason it happened is cuz i came back too early from the original break. All it took for the second break was a little jolt in the shoulder and I had another clean snap. It wsn't fun! I'm sure if you hit a pot hole or even brake hard enough you could do some serious damage.

I have taken that into consideration, which is why I went for a test run last night to decide. It was a clean break of my ulna, so literally the only thing affected is the ability to rotate my arm. I had a plate put in 2 weeks ago, so along with the fusing process being well past started, there is extra support in there with the plate and screws. If at all i feel unable to cope with any situation, I will absolutely put the bike back in the garage, but I think I have thrown the bore around enough to be confident in situations that may occur.

When i broke my right heel 7 years ago the doctor warned me not to drive for a while. He had a patient with a broken leg who was driving a car and was involved in an accident. Someone died and she got two years for impaired driving. We always think of impaired driving as driving drunk but it is really driving while you have any kind of physical issue that might hinder your abilities.

Yeah dude, I'd echo what everybody is saying and take some more time to heal. You might feel alright like everything is fine but you never know how close you are to re-injuring it or delaying the healing process. I would do what the doctor says in this scenario.

the bike vibrations can't be good for the break either.
+1. We use a tuning fork vibrating on the bone to detect hairline fractures so maybe after some longer riding with the vibrations it will become painfull... They yell if the test is positive.

man... chill out and sit tight i know it's hard to resist the temptation once you know you can ride, but better let your whole arm heal right or it's gonna come back to haunt you later...

What happens if someone cuts you off and you slam on the brakes? If you aren't comfortable doing push ups, stay off your bike before you really mess yourself up.

Thanks got the reality check... I really hate that I "can" ride but shouldn't... Looks like it's going back into the garage until I talk to the dr about it. Got an appointment next week to see how things are progressing.

Lol. I am the product of my parents... And they haver both done stuff like this... And are completely cool that the cast is off etc...

Haha... yep. My mom always tells me the story about when she rode pylon from Montreal to out west in the sixties. No mandatory helmets in those days. They had a front wheel blow out and they went into a ditch. My mom got up and was laughing. The rider wasn't too pleased however, when he saw the state of the bike!

If mom would do it... then your good to go ;)
