Had been a victim of a hit&run. My insurance company offered a low amount, IMHO. Courtesy of their appraisal, from Mitchell International.
I asked for more, based on my pricing reasearch and accessories. Offering to settle for 50% more.
Insurance company refused.
I had to find my own appraiser, which was where Tony stepped in, via Instant Car Appraisal
I now have an acceptable settlement in my bank account.
Thank you Tony.
Thank you Instant Car Appraisal.
Things I learnt along the way

- Wawanesa insists on original sales receipts for any accessory items eg: panniers.
- Ontario has legislation in place for a valuation dispute. If you disagree with the insurance company, you must find your own appraiser. Your appraiser creates their own report which goes to the insurance appraiser. This is as far as it went for me. Wawanesa made an improved offer which I accepted. If I had not, then the two appraisers would appoint a third to act as umpire.
- There is a grey area regarding accessories. Neither broker nor insurance companies ask for a listing of new items. And Wawanesa discounted my accessories as I did not have original sales receipts. But when comparing your motorcycle to others, in the appraisal process, the other motorcycles will have some accessories. Your appraiser will take all that into account.
- If you are not at fault, insurance companies normally waive the deductible. Wawanesa would not do that because the car driver ran away.
