Teknic went bankrupt?

They're not. I spoke with a rep today at work, they're just going through a change in ownership. They already have their next season products in production.

They are owned (used to be owned) by a Specialty Sports.

I am using their product as well, hope the move is toward the better but got a feeling they might be going downstream, cheaper price and cheaper quality.

Love my Teknic suit and really like their jacket line as well. I certainly hope they don't go down in quality.

I have the 2012 version of the Freeway jacket, the matching pants too. Jacket is nice and has some great features. Doesn't vent too well in the heat. about the same as riding a non-perforated leather jacket. Have yet to overheat though and I've ridden in some stupid hot days. Without the liner, I find the jacket gets super cold below 20c, worth it to pack the liner or a long sleeve shirt if you're expecting a chilly evening or something. Would be nice if the liner was that mesh material that most jackets use, but that's just nit-picking. With the liner, I'm good down to around 5c with a light long sleeve shirt. Doesn't look like it would do much, but it makes a world of difference.

Amazingly, using it for the past 25-30k km I have yet to properly test how waterproof it is. I've ridden in some light rain, as well as short heavy bursts, and it's done fine. Have yet to properly test it in pouring rain for hours on end.

I've crash tested it for what it's worth. It was only on grass, but fast and hard enough to break my forearm and bruise/possibly fracture a collarbone. Can't blame the jacket for any of that, and it came out fine with only some minor rash.

Overall very happy with it, wouldn't hesitate to buy it again if it were on sale.

Thanks for the detailed review.

i guess my leather teknic jacket is a collectors item now? :D

Why is revzilla having a closeout sale?

I just bought a Mercury jacket from GP bikes, I'm in love with it even though at this point I'm pretty sure I overpaid for it.

It sounds like they are cleaning out all of the old teknic gear to make way for new gear. Hell, part of the deal for the sale may have been that the original owners must liquidate all existing Teknic gear by August 1 (for example).

Maybe Rev is dropping them as a brand they carry? As for gp bikes, they have a lot but I wouldn't say they're the cheapest from the searching I've done.

If you go in and talk to a sales rep you can generally get a discount in-store. Impossible to beat Revzilla pricing but they've cleared out almost everything at this point

Any new news on Teknic? I can't find a website or contact details for them.

Officially DOA :(

Can't find their stuff with PartsCanada, FullBore or Gamma and not in the US either

A lot of their lines are on sale, the new lines are coming in September. This is the time of year they start selling out on typical sizes.

I don't get why people buy from them, when you do all the math, especially if you factor in a return, they are expensive.

Right now the CDN distributors have the bargains, as they bought stock back before the dollar tanked. Many CDN prices are equal to US$, with free shipping and no customs issues.

They don't actually have much. They list a lot of stuff on their website they can't sell.
When you place an order, they contact the distributor to check for availability, and a few days later you get an email. They don't actually stock most items.
I tried to make 6 difference purchases off the GP bikes site since May, and all 6 were out of stock.

Sounds like you'd blame GP Bikes for Teknic's problem if they didn't? lol.

Not at all but I expect stores to stick by the quality of the products they sell and remediate issues and they did. GP has great customer service on each of the interactions.

Good on GP. Tough call cause it's the manufacture that has to stand behind the product, not the seller...usually. It's not like the seller/GP can return the defective product to Teknic for their refund. Cost of customer relations for GP.

Yea i would have been happy to get it in to Teknic but they were not around anymore. But i belive someone else was doing the interim warranty work for GP so they probably got something back.
