Tape on new tires....

My new Bridgestone front slick has a bunch of "Bridgestone" packing tape type stuff running around the circumference. You would think it would pull right off but nope, it is terrible to remove - can hardly peel up a corner and when I do it just pulls apart. Very annoying. Anyone know what to do about this? If I ran the tire warmer on it might that loosen it up? Having a hard time understanding why anyone would put this junk on a tire.

Blue tape? My friend got some Bridgestone rain tires that had the same thing. We cut it on the inside of the tire and it came right off. I don't even recall that it had an adhesive. If it did it was very weak. Maybe it got gummy and gross somehow from storage... ?

That is why i asked for a pic, I don't know the type of tape he is talking about since my experience is the same as yours

Sorry, at work so can't provide a pic, but will later. Yes it was all wrapped in blue shrink wrappy kinda stuff which came right off. But then, stuck right on the tire around much of the circumference is this beige tape about 3/4" wide with red Bridgestone logos on it. Similar to packing tape. Sounds like this is not normal.

I don't remember that. That's annoying...but I wonder if you could just leave it on there, like leaving on the paper tire tags and burn it off on the track.

Here is the offending crap.

After this was taken I made significant progress removing it. I got all the shiny (and very slippery) clear backing off. A lot of the gummy coloured stuff is still on the tire, but I expect that will wear off on the track.

What a pain!

Others may chime in but I think you will be ok to ride with that on, just take it really easy the first couple of laps until it wears off. Hard to see

Next time buy Dunlops :D

Sorry if this sounds dumb but wouldn't something like that goo gone stuff work?
NO! That will affect the rubber. That tape is nothing compared to a sticker applied to any track tires by all the manufacturers. The stickers used by most companies are loved by most top racers. "Stickers" are awsome. You can see many good race photo's of guys going into turn one and stickers still on the tire.
But they are put center line of the tire and not on the side. The stickers are usually gone on a warm up lap but that is dependend on track design. That tape is nothing and will probably be gone by the end of pit lane.
