No. I needed the shaft to grab on to. Drill bit larger than shaft so head pops off as soon as you're through.Did you have to drill out more than the head of the bolt?
Gonna say that once the head came off, so did the weight exposing enough bolt to bite on with vicegrips. So here's a question. The thread lock is obviously not on the drilled out head but still on the threads ... how exactly does removing the head help?
Good job but trying to visualize the process.
TT has it. Head comes off which frees weight. That leaves you with ~1/2 of shaft past the end of the handlebar to easily grab with vice grips. The bolts didn't need a ton of torque to get free but the heads were so soft (and pre-stripped when I got there) that you couldn't get enough traction. Adding to the problems, the weights were lightly glued on so before drilling we were also fighting friction between the head and weight. So here's a question. The thread lock is obviously not on the drilled out head but still on the threads ... how exactly does removing the head help?

If it came to that, I had some smaller vise grips that could grab a shaft inside the bar.Ah, so you had exposed shaft to grab onto, got it.
I was assuming the shaft was all inside the handlebar leaving you with now nothing to grab onto.
