So called upgrades, Why Bother?

You don't need a Power Commander anymore. For half the price you can get a flashed ECU designed specifically for your bike, with your choice of aftermarket exhaust mailed to you. Plug it in and away you go. If Rider's Choice is reading, there is much opportunity for you here. See:

If I'm buying a bike I would like to get it as original as possible. That way I can modify it the way I like. Any part I put on the bike is quality and will not cheap out (i.e. ebay levers). I have an Akrapovic slip-on and a PCV. The PC was mandatory because I was removing the catalytic converter and the bike will be under powered without it. I just ordered Driven rearsets to help with comfort and ASV levers for aesthetics/quality and ease of operation. I keep all the stock parts, exhaust, levers, rearsets etc (which are all in good condition)... That way if the buyer wants a stock bike, I can reverse everything and vois la!!!Nothing is wrong with buying a modded bike. It might even be better if you planned on doing those mods yourself down the line. The only problem is if you don't like certain mods (i.e. the the look/sound of an exhaust)...I enjoyed my bike when it was all stock, but I enjoy it even more after the mods I've done/will do.Edit: OP, If I rode a CBR125R, I wouldn't bother with mods either. Just sayin'...

LoL... A tad too late...

And Rob, I've had exhausts and fender eliminators on all of my bikes and have never been so much as questioned about any of them. Riding aggressively and speeding is what attracts cops. If you're playing nice, they won't bother you. But you know that already.

Good for you. It's an offence, to not have a fender. If you aren't stopped specifically for it, then it can easily become part of a, "Do you want fries with that?" collection of tickets, at a stop for speed. Plenty of people have found that out, the hard way. I would question a safety inspection performed on a bike with a fender eliminator, that passed it. As it's required, by law, I would wonder what else had been skipped.

I thought you were talking about yourself expanding with age. :laughing8:

That's a given. It's also why you pop for adjustable suspension

Enough with the sales pitch! Old news... and RC has been doing it for years...

despite what you may think not everyone rides a suzuki, and you can't reflash a lot of other companies street ECUs

This thread taught me two things:

#1. There are a lot of little girls who ride.

#2. How/what to modify.

Thanks all!

I only read the first and last pages, but as a Ducati owner I can tell you 100% for certain that some models come from the factory essentially defective, in order to meet some strange noise or emissions requirements. In the case of my bike, final drive gearing that was way too tall, fueling that was ridiculously lean, and a tacked-on incredibly ugly in full view evap cannister put there for the benefit of California, but obviously *begging* to be removed. Oh, and underspring non-adjustable front suspension, underspring rear suspension, a boat anchor of a taillight / license plate hanger...I could go on. These aren't radical changes, just making the bike the way it should be.

On the other hand, I admit to making pretty radical intake, exhaust and fueling mods and, really, I can't say that these make a pile of sense other than for entertainment value for those of us who like to tinker. It's a lot more sensible to just buy a bike with enough hosepower in the first place. Why spend $3000 getting an 85-hp bike to 92 hp, unless you just enjoy the process?

this is such a wonderful thread to post all the specs for every possible mods out there, then we can mod our bike accordingly :p

In my extensive experience cops will not issue tickets for fender eliminators unless the plate is obscured or mounted in a fashion that makes it hard to read.

Lots of stuff is illegal but we do it anyway. Not sure why we're even discussing legalities now. You're in the minority of sportbike riders who don't mod their bikes and thats about all there is to it.

Really? I mod my bikes. I just don't expect that I'll get the money back out of them, nor do I want to buy the potential mistakes of someone else.

Who said anything about getting money back from mods? You can get a little bit, but nobody ever gets full pop.

I wrench on my own bikes and I can spot "potential mistakes" before handing my money over for a used bike. Buyer beware, stock or modded makes no difference.

this is such a retarded thread, motorsport enthusiasts mod their vehicles do you have a problem with that?

You can tear my steering damper and -1/+2 gearing from my cold dead hands.

Who's the retard? Someone who has a bike worth 5000, spends a 1000 on mods, and tries to sell the bike for 6000?
