Should I winterize or keep the bike running?

If draining the carbs is a pita then just turn the gas off and run her till she dies.

Two bikes - many years of winter prepping.

One bike is FI and one is carbed but my procedures are the same.

Fresh oil and filter and then a little run up to the service station. Add fuel stabilizer and brim the tanks to avoid condensation over the winter and ride home (half mile).

Wash, wax, and put in my bike garage. My garage is dry so I don't even cover the bikes.

I leave the batteries in the bike but place on battery tenders. In fact, I keep them on tenders even if we go away for a couple of weeks during the summer.

My wife's bike is carbed and I don't drain the bowls - just make sure treated gas is run through the system and the ride home from the service station ensures that is the case. I have read where some recommend draining fuel lines to prevent the gas from causing rubber lines and seals to deteriorate but
I've also heard the argument that exposing the rubber parts to air will lead to dried out and cracked rubber. I've opted to go with the leave everything wet approach and have not yet had any problems. I do the same thing for my FI bike.

And yes - it is way too early to be thinking of putting the bikes away for the winter!

OP No diff from your CBR 125

Fill gas tank to max
Put bike on front and rear stands
Put clear plastic or some kind of barrier between concrete floor and stands
Change oil and filter
Lube chain
Remove seat, put battery tender on it
Start bike every week or two
Let bike cycle through at least 10 on/off coolant fan cycles
Spin front/rear wheels every week or two to avoid chain flat spot, pads sticking to rotor.
Apply clutch, front rear brake every couple of weeks

Most just run to coolant temp reaches fan relay temp, but it's oil temp you want to get up to operating temp to avoid condensation.

Whoever wrote starting the bike is a bad idea, BS.

Your only caveat with a carbed bike is to turn petcock to on, as you're getting ready to shut the bike off, turn the petcock to off, and let the bike bog (run out of fuel) to a stall. That'll drain your float bowls.

You're done.

I start my Gixx every time I shovel the driveway. It actually picks up your spirits to hear the bike roaring to life while you're shoveling away.

I also recommend stocking up on seasons past of MotoGP, WSBK, AMA, Isle of Mann TT and a hot chick and you're good to go!

I never winterized bikes before. Just go for 20 min ride every two weeks during winter when roads are dry. Been riding since 07, always done it this way.

+1 I do the same...I don't winterize my bike either... I ride all year round :)
