Shipping from Italy

Any forwarding company running a consolidation from Italy (or Europe) can do it when properly crated. Many large companies will refuse though when .... a) used vehicle or b) private goods are involved So your best best bet are companies specializing in moving personal effects. You will pay a bit more, but they will do it.

I'd expect to pay 800-1000$ from door Italy to a terminal in GTA (don't have them do door GTA, you will be paying through a nose for residential delivery) when every fee or charge is counted. Shipping one bike is the most expensive undertaking. That's why not many people do it.

If you take a 20' container things get much easier and less expensive per unit ......

A bike this old from Europe may not have a conformant VIN. You'll probably successfully get the bike registered but most insurance companies won't cover a bike whose VIN doesn't conform. I'm struggling with that problem right now with my BMW K100 (imported from Germany).

That's a scary thought. My dad has 2 vintage Vespas with non-conforming VINs, and a friend of mine has an Alfa Romeo from the 70s with a VERY short VIN. I'd hate for the insurance policy renewals to be denied.

I eventually got the insurance coverage I was after for my BMW. I used John Duffy Insurance Brokerage who underwrote the insurance through Jevco Insurance. It did take two weeks for Jevco to research and approve the VIN though.

What would be the best company or service to use for intercontinenal shipping of such a bike?

I'm mostly concerned about crating and transportation from seller to buyer.

I've been asking around and my dad mentioned "ViaMar Scilla Transport International Inc." (viamar.ca) based in Toronto. They shipped a Vespa for him from Italy back in the day. I'll post an update when I get a response from them.

The main difference being that he was in Italy to arrange the pickup (and he crated the scooter himself).
