Shannonville days?

So I just had a great day with Pro6 at Shannonville yesterday, only 2 groups so tons of riding time, and I managed to keep the bike on 2 wheels this time. So anyways now we are trying to squeeze one more day in, and I see they have a lapping day on the 28th and weather is supposed to be good. Im just wondering how do these days run by the track compare to a day run by a shop like Pro6 or Riders Choice.

And also does anyone else from here plan on going on the 28th?

theyre usually open session with no tech..fairly laid back day. ambulance on standby with marshals of course. This coming saturday, being a weekend trackday, may be a little busier. I suspect they may end up dividing the riders into groups, but who knows.

It's always been groups when I've been there. Tech is.....well let's just say the pro 6 tech is probably %100 better. I have no issues doing the SMP run days.

Ralph and Chris are super guys... and they pay more attention to tech than you think, but not a great deal in general. Anyway I agree this one may be busy enough to require groups but usually not over the past couple of years.

Great days. Always been open-track when I've gone but like the others have said they may do groups (usually they ask how many track newbs are present before deciding to do open-track).
Good to hear you had fun yesterday. My buddy was there and crashed his blue/wht GSXR750 :(

We are having an open supermoto practice (lapping) session on Saturday from 5 pm until dark on the Nelson track...that means non-stop riding for 3 hours straight if you really want to. I believe cost is only $25.

I can bring it with me and if I'm not dead tired I'd join in for some late laps. Hopefully there is someone there that can set up my suspension for me?

Yea, there should be a couple of pros that might be able to help you out. I suspect that your handling woes are body position related though.

In turns or a straight line front wheel wobbles and skips on the track. Suspension is stock settings right now which I'm sure isn't good for pavement riding, so as bad as my style might be I think the bike and me could benefit from a basic suspensions setup.

On mon Ryan from pro6 came to my pit and said your getting wobbles down the small straight past the wall where he was standing, I thought nothing of them. But he insisted that it's suspension and shouldn't happen no matter how ham fisted I am. He made some adjustments to my suspension and it stopped. So again suspension is something I really don't get into as far as tuning them and I can really benefit from.

OK, you might be right. As a starting point though, just make sure that all of the clickers at the stock settings as per your manual and also make sure that the sag as set correctly.

Dave Arnold should be there to help you out with the suspension. From the top of my head, front tire bouncing and front wheel pushing would indicate that the rebound is set too fast, but it also means that you're not weighing the front wheel enough.

I rode the stock MX suspension at stock settings on my CRF for a whole season and while it wasn't optimal, it worked. I'm also 190 lb + gear.

A few people have told me to stiffen up the rear from stock settings. Front end wobble in a straight is no problem but its not too fun in the corners at lean..Also I dont put my leg out like most people do, I ride it like a sport bike right now because that is all I really know...Would be really nice to get out and follow more experienced SM guys. I have only ridden it once on track at grand bend and there wasnt any true SM's in my group to follow....So basically I am just winging it

Well make sure to come out on Saturday then. Last chance for this year.

Hey Johnny, what happened...didn't see you there on Saturday?

Your 2 friends stayed for the supermoto practice and one of them seemed to enjoy himself a lot...I think his name was Jerry.

Those were a pack of 3 polish brothers actually lol....I couldn't make it unfortunately, but from what they said I need to invest in some more gear and come out for SM thing next season for sure....I don't own a dirt helmet or boots at the moment, they said I would kill a street helmet with the dirt and my boots would be shredded if I used the foot out style. They also said almost everyone is running the Michelin SM tires, I have 125 slicks on mine right now, not sure how those would perform in the dirt sections... As always need more time and money...They also mentioned alot of fast guys there from Montreal/Quebec, they were really impressed....One of them bought a CRF450 over a year ago, said he was going to join me and convert to SM, never happened but now he got the bug again after seeing u guys ride. Swears hes going to do the conversion now, will see, but at least I know Jerry is down for the cause

Yea, you're right about the boots and helmet actually - they wouldn't get destroyed, but scratched for sure. Your tires would be fine, all slicks are the same in the dirt...

I spoke to the CRF guy...doesn't sound like not having converted the dirt bike stops him from riding it LOL

Jerry looked interested for sure, I sent him contact for a supermoto suspension guy and it looked like he spent a lot of time talking to racers in the pits.

Jerry is into it for sure, he bought alot of parts for it and I recently installed a slipper clutch for him....Its his brother that bought another CRF450 bud didnt convert it, he rides it alot but in MX form.....Now he says hes getting all the SM stuff over the winter after seeing you guys ride on the weekend..LOL

I'm trying to get my hands on an SXV550 so hopefully I'll be out there with you guys in the spring.
